I gather the reason for the media attention is that according to the article, $15 million is the projected spending done in Nevada alone by burners and organizers comming to the event. The event is a shot in the arm for the local economy
Jessica Schnider of Junkee Clothing Exchange in Reno said "Burning Man people don't look at prices." Adding they "are so damn rich the economy has'nt affected them."
The economy has'nt affected us (my wife and I) to much but we're still livin paycheck to paycheck. I'm still driving my 95 Ford p/u with a shell to the event as opposed to a $200,000 motor home. Or even pulling a used $6,000 camp trailer. Hell, I can't even afford to get a used pop-up tent trailer for $900.
As far as HAN goes, I hope it gets moved to Lost Wages, as there is some talk of that.
