Woodstock was top-down; Burning Man is (mostly) bottom-up.
Woodstock was incidental; Burning Man, intentional.
Woodstock appealed broadly to 18 to 25 year olds; Burning Man appeals narrowly across people of all ages.
Woodstock was an event that became myth; Burning Man, a myth that continues as an evolving event.

They both had pompous idiots pontificating on what the "meaning" was.

Altamont rebutted Woodstock.
Burning Man rebuts itself.

Woodstock was just a concert that got out of hand.

Burning Man is like a VFW convention, full of bitter old men telling hippies to go home.

But home is Burningman, so there you are.

I missed Woodstock and always regretted it. Well, I was much too young to go, but I always held that regret into adulthood. Burning Man is exactly like I imagined Woodstock would have been. Wow, I can relive Woodstock every year and meet all the hippies that were actually there.
So Burning Man is just what I needed to fix that big regret!

That sounds just like a fucking Miss America contestant speech! Sorry.

At Woodstock, they didn't hand out a list of things that you can't do.
