The standard is, Australia's dial out code (0011?) then
1-phone number
1 is the US country code.
US phone numbers are always
3 digits - "Area code" - indicates geographic region. BM is probably 415 (San Francisco). Anything starting with an 8 - 800, 866, 888 - is probably toll free within US - don't know how it works if you're calling in from outside US.
7 digits. This is the individual phone #. Commonly represented as nnn-nnnn, three digits dash four digits. Not only does that help remember it, but it's got a historical basis. The first 3 of these 7 digits originally were further geographic location, down to a small town or part of a bigger town. That's pretty obsolete.
So you'll probably dial something like
0011-1-415-nnn-nnnn

According to this site:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/dialing.html
The correct number is:
0011 1 415 865 3820
You would only use the 61 part if you were dialing from another country TO Australia.
