Who Did You Meet This Year?

Post by flatlander13 » Mon Sep 14, 2009 12:16 pm

Who did you meet at this year’s burn? I’ll go first………………..

While pretending to sleep on the couch in our camp…………I met a bald guy who came into our camp (made sure I was asleep)……………..he got a drink or two from the camp water cooler……he sat down and shaved his head for 20 minutes………….got some coffee and left……………

This woman who can only be described as a, “Old Crazy Bitchâ€

I met a bunch of my favorite eplayans.....missed a few, but, really glad to meet the ones I did...........

met some guy from DPW, just walked into our camp, all aggressive, asked for one of our campers hat, in an intimidating fashion, and, got it......

I asked if he wanted a drink.......and offered the bottle.
he replied:
"you drink first, I want to make sure it's ok" (where could that paranoia have come from.......)

I said:
"I don't give a flying fuck if you drink or not, if you want some, have some and welcome to it, if not, fuck off"

He tried to stare and intimidate me.......and, me being the "Don Knotts" sort of fellow I am, I stood up to him and then, I guess he decided, since he was pretty darn drunk anyway, he show me how to really drink.

so, he took the bottle, and took several huge gulps.......then his eyes started watering and he started choking........

he says:

"what is that? gasp, cough, choke."

I said, read the label, here, let me help:

A-B-S-I-N-T-H-E.......there, now you know............

he hugged me and said it was the best drink he'd had all day........

now, we're pals.......

(as his buddies steadied him from both sides as he tried to walk away)

I met Adam and Eve. With the snake wrapped around us, Eve tempted me with the apple. Later on that day I also met the Devil at center camp. I was surprised that the Devil was female. I can't post the pictures. I didn't realize that my camera took pictures as detailed as it did

i had lots of eplayans to meet, and met a lot of them!

someone pointed wedeliver out to me, but he was talking to others, and i never got to say hello .... so i'll say it now ... !

yes, oneeyedick, we were introduced, but didn't talk .... several others ... risky, pinemom, titwi, antiM among them, as well...

i met shambala and his burning man stamp before i knew he was shambala! but then i met him again ...

i got to talk a bit to bin noddin and box burner and swampdog and sailman and elorrum and gyre and fishy and doc pyro and goathead and sputnik and deb .....

and of course, i met many barbarians, lost boys, and others in our neighborhood, plus ygmir's campmates, who were a lot of fun.

one great thing was how i would be sitting alone somewhere, and someone would just come up and start talking to me. i don't remember ever being lonely ...

sigh ... can we go back, now?

Hmmm, let's see.....Anti-M and MyLarry and Shambala at the Home for Wayward Arts, Ygmir (ya get that light fixed yet?) Crypto at the Boobie Bar and at the MnG, along with Titwi and Pinemom, Swamp Dog, Littleflower, UglyDougly, Gyre, IBDave, Bin Noddin, Doc Pyro, Deb, Simon over at the Root society, Goathead at the homebrew camp, who advised me that the only way he'd make the next MnG is to be kidnapped, wink wink, nudge nudge, and who's homebrew camp made my wife's decision to return to next years burn even easier. :D

Also enjoyed meeting JKisha and his partner John, and enjoyed they're root beer floats. In fact, my mug still has caked ice cream on it :D

Also, ran across Sputnik from my home turf, along with a few other local peeps.

There were also a few that I didnt get to meet that I had hoped to, but that will just give me some further anticipation for the next burn.

Dog! Is it still a year away?!?

The house is a mess, dusty gear everywhere. The camper less so, camped in Utah at Flaming gorge for a few nights and got it somewhat cleaned up. Learned that the oversized car-wash is only taller, not wider, and it's much easier to get the camper into it, then out of it  And, it still has bug's all over the front of it

Here's to next year my friends Image

I think I met almost everyone that has posted in this thread. So as not to leave anyone out, I'll just say I met a whole bunch of eplayans and didn't meet a single one I didn't like.

The cutest one was sail man's little boy--especially when he was caravanning with mom and dad on their bicycles! You should post a pic of that if you have one.

Oh, and Simon actually shook my hand before he even knew who I was! ;)

Simon, were you by chance wearing a small license plate with your name on it at any time during the event? Kind of tall and thin?

ePlayans are the best. Although I will have to withhold complete judgement on this since I also couldn't match schedules with Cryptofishist!

Met gyre, Shimbala, ygmir, sailman (and family), Rhino (although he's more from tribe), then I ran into my friends from Reno - OneEyedDick, Leggs, Risky, Pinegranny and TITWI. And Goathead was camped next door at Home Brew camp! Then I ran into little flower and Ugly Dougly as they sipped a brew with Goathead. Also met penguin and Neon.

Then Simon did me a huge, special favour by taking the nasty graffiti off Caleb's memorial sculpture! This graffiti was aimed at me not Caleb so it needed to be removed - if it was aimed at Caleb I would have considered it art and left it there.

Okay, then Simon did the best thing in the whole world - he found an artist among his camp mates who painted a huge picture of Caleb on a found board which I am carting home with me now. Absolutely the best gift ever. Simon is my new hero. Although ygmir is running a very, very close second with his gift of a piece of polished granite to replace my broken one which I use for pounding and carving leather gifts. Now I can make presents!

I met so many people I'm sure I've missed mentioning someone here but I have to say it really was a good burn for meeting people and sharing some joy and stories with.

I was blessed this year. Met lots and lots of people - some from eplaya and some from Tribe and many who aren't bothered with either but are great to meet in person.

Next year's list includes Artemis and Cryptofishist who I seemed to miss for playa timing reasons.

deb, it was my pleasure, really....

aydin and i carried that thing ALL OVER the playa looking for you....we even stopped at doc pyro's for a nice glass of wine on the way...

it was truly the process in this case that made the piece...

seeing you in Nixon sealed the deal....it was supposed to be that way and so it was.

i was merely a willing PARTICIPANT in a beautiful, deep canvas that came to life in our kitchen, as Aydin painted feverishly, as if possessed. granted, i fed him drugs and egged him on, but i am so glad i could be a part of the healing for you.

i know it sounds stupid and corny, and i'm going to catch shit for this, but i really like helping others, it is a reward unto itself that is truly satisfying on many levels.

fuck....i just blew all street cred i had....dammit deb....

best burn ever......thank you and may caleb truly rest in peace.
