I Have The Swine Flu, Now What?...
I think I just came down with the dreaded Swine Flu, or maybe one of it's cousins. I noticed it yesterday about mid afternoon, there was a slight tightening in my throat, that later became more pronounced, and by nightfall, I started getting noticeably warmer. This morning when I woke up, my throat was starting to feel really sore, and my nose was starting to congest. My first mistake was to clear my throat and swallow the phlegm, I realized at the point I was introducing the virulent directly into the rest of my body. I immediately began a regiment of gargling with an antiseptic mouth wash, and anytime I cleared my throat or nose, I spit the phlegm out, rather than swallowing it. Had I been at home in Memphis, my grandmother would have started me doing it the minute I felt the sore throat coming on. I immediately felt better, and the soreness in my throat began going away, I just hope I started in time, and I will keep it up over the course of the day by carrying a small water bottle filled with the mouthwash, and I will gargle every 5 min or so, and will continue to do so, even after it has completely gone away.
My car has been in the shop since last Monday, and I will pick it up Mon-Tue, so I have been using public transportation since then. I have noticed a few people sick and coughing on the bus, but did not pay attention, only grumbled to myself that most of the sick people were not covering their mouths when they were coughing. I did not want to seem to be inconsiderate by moving away from them, or covering my nose and mouth, and seeming silly but looking back I certainly should have, screw what people would have thought (damn). When growing up down south I hardly ever had a cold or the flu because we were made at the first sign of a cough or sore throat were immediately made to start gargling with Listerine, and Ta Dah, no cold. So a word to the wise, start your day gargling with an antiseptic mouth wash, 3 or 4 times a day, even if you do not have any symptoms, when someone around you coughs without covering their mouth, cover yours, and at the first sign of flu symptoms, start the regime immediately, so the virus can't get a foothold on your system. Wash your hands with soap and water or an antiseptic towelette after leaving any public place, anywhere where you have had contact with outside people and things.
So lets recap:
1. Gargle at night with a strong antiseptic mouthwash before bed, so the virus can not set up while you are sleeping.
2. Do not swallow phlegm when you clear your nose or throat, spit it out into a trashcan, a napkin, or any safe place you can spit.
3. If you feel the signs of the flu coming on, carry tkhe mouthwash with you and gargle every 5 mins or so.
4. When you see someone who is sick or coughing like they are sick move away from them, and either have them cover their mouth or cover your mouth, or both.
5. Don't take chances, avoid shaking hands and just use the fist bump, use the "The flu is going around." excuse if someone takes exception to you not shaking hands.
Precautions are your best defense, and I for one do not trust the government and their cures (ie the Tuskegee Airmen incident)
be well,

my regimen:
rinse eyes with boric acid solution
rinse ears with rubbing alcohol and or hydrogen peroxide, tilting head and working ear canal until I can feel it behind my eyes,
saline spray up the nose
then gargle.
these, in this order, will help cleanse your entire upper respiratory system, places where germs, etc, can easily hide like Eustachian tubes, etc.
Zinc is good in a lozenge, and elderberry, as well as grapfruit seed extract........
well,
that's my 2 cents.......

As soon as I feel the itchy back of the throat, head cold coming on feeling, I go to the ZINC. Get agressive as soon as you feel the warning symptoms. Any kind has helped to reduce severity and duration. I've tried zinc vitamin C lozenge, airborn type of fizzy, zicam, whatever was available. If I get a head cold, the congestion never settles, or only lasts a day or two. Phase two is my killer soup. Thai chicken, chili pepper and lime juice ginger coconut... similar to a Thom ka Gai. This clears all the upper sluices. I have some in my freezer. I also like the herbal teas: Breathe Easy, and Gypsy cold care. And I go to bed. No fooling around if I have a fever, stay home and sleep. I just had the flu, and was down for three days only, only missed two days of work. I had a lingering cough and malaise for around a week, but was only miserable for a couple of days.

Rabbi, in all the research "sambuco" made from the black elderberry is the absolute best remedy. http://www.sambucolusa.com/?gclid=CNX0- ... agodNlWB_g
I've got some here in Van Nuys. The original research was done by Dr Mumcuoglu.
Rabbi, here's a disturbing vid. Not much happens until just after 10 minutes. Damn trigger-happy cops.

I don't post things because I believe that they are the absolute truth. I post them because I believe that they should be considered.
I don't really use recipes... things sort of come together and are always a bit different? Sometimes it comes out very good, and I wish I wrote that stuff down. It doesn't vary a whole lot. When it doesn't come out that good, it's still good, and it's still VERY agressive and well, medicine doesn't have to taste wonderful to work. And as Gary Larson's mother chicken said to the sick chick in bed, "its good for you, and besides, it's nobody we know."
Plan B, have someone get you some Thom ka gai takeout soup, and ask for HOT
-well reduced chicken stock, chicken meat, add more, or water for more soup. I usually have a couple of quarts in the freezer from when I cook a whole chicken, or buy a rotisserie chicken, boil the carcass and take out the bones. In December I make soups with Turkey stock, since there's loads of it then.
-red curry paste (big tablespoon), or ginger coconut soup base or both. Thai Taste has a few in this line.
-juice of 4 - 8 limes lots of limes
- grated ginger
tablespoon apx. of thai fish sauce. a bottle of this will last you several years. It is salty, a strong flavor and adds some body to the soup... don't put too much... I put some in a marinade once (BAAAAD)
- chilis I like serano, about 4, or get wild, I'm gonna try habanero one day
- bell pepper, at least one... red makes the soup a bit pinkish.. green, whatever. I think the capsacin (?) has a benefit for a cold.
- veggies..., if you make this in advance, or for a sick friend, splurge for the little ears of corn in a can. They seem special, and what they hell, if you're sick, you deserve a treat. shelled edamame has a nice texture in a soup, sliced mushrooms, it must have carrots, some kind of onion, whatever is in the fridge, kale holds up well in this soup. (note: soup is a great way to eat a lot of vegetables you aren't too keen on. broccolli, squash, cabbage. I get to feel like I really like vegetables, when I really just like soup)
- can of cocoanut milk
- fresh cilantro, add at the very end, when all the vegetables are done.... too much and it can be pretty bad. handful? 2-3 tablespoons chopped?
- can also add chili garlic sauce, chili oil, you see where this is headed.
I usually end up with about three to four quarts depending on how much vegetables I've put in.
the coconut is what tames it some.... you want lime, chili, chicken stock, bell pepper in the main. If I'm feeling bad, don't want to cook, don't have soup in the freezer, I put some chili garlic paste and a squirt of lime or lemon juice in a can of Campbells chicken noodle soup, and hope my nose starts to run.

This is a very interesting article arguing that the swine flu is actually a form of tuberculosis.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im so glad I have only got one shot back in 2003, it made me sicker then I had ever been with the flu!
I vowed to never have one again, nor allow my kids to get any!!!
Then the talk of the swine shot, fuck that...pardon me. And I have told anyone I know with a small child/baby to DONT DO IT!!!!!!
The body really is capable of building its own defense system.
My view on whats wrong with us anymore...a pill for everything, causes the body to stop forming antibodies!

People that believe junk science and mythology and refuse to get vacinatted or to get their children vacinated are putting the entire population at risk. Not to mention themselves and their children--it's akin to child abuse.

i love how you come out with your opinions as if they were absolutely fact JK ...
some vaccines definitely work .... polio, measles, mumps, that sort of thing ... but these yearly flu shots? i never get them, and very rarely get sick. pinemom is absolutely right ... the body has its own defenses, and there are a great many doctors who worry about this push to depend on shots and pills to keep people well.

interesting, JK,
for such a critical thinker, it seems, at times, you buy into "the government is always looking out for us and would never put us at risk".........
( I also understand, that, I'm pretty cynical regarding government anything, so, may be just as jaded the opposite direction)
but,
There is evidence of deleterious effects from vaccinations, of all sorts.......maybe even not so much the "vaccine", but, the chemicals used to make it and carriers,etc.........
And, the gov. has a track record of "human experiments" on unsuspecting citizens in just this manner.........(military personnel, folks certain areas for control groups, folks of particular ethnicity, etc)
the mindset of "the collective" can, at times be counterproductive........
also, the theory that if everyone else gets vaccinated, you don't have to..........
just some random thoughts..........

when it comes to this particular issue, it is a fact. Period. Unfortunately, the body's defenses can't keep up with today's viruses without help. Too many people, in too crowded situations, being able to travel around the world in hours.littleflower wrote:i love how you come out with your opinions as if they were absolutely fact JK ...![]()

After ten years?!?!?!?! They have been vacinating for flu since 1940 or so...all the results have been in since before you and I were even born. H1N1 is no different than the seasonal flu shot...just a different virus. They add different strains of the virus each year.pinemom wrote:hahaa. Im not ignorant nor a child abuser!
But I tell ya what, in 10 yrs after the first shots go in....we'll see what they have to say/show.
Till then....they can kiss my ass!
So there is no "logical" reason to not get the H1N1 shot. People that think the way you do are also responsible for an increase in Polio today too.
