Epic Fail on the Road to "Cool."
Face it. We were all young and insecure once. But we wanted to be "cool" or "sophisticated" and win the admiration of our peers.
Yesterday, I was in an restaurant where they were playing "All Tomorrow's Parties" over the stereo. And all I could think was "This is annoying." And: I used to own the album, what was I trying to prove?
Anything you've done trying to show off and now just laugh about?
Tell us, please.

Everything I currenly do is mostly to show off so we can all laugh about it.she said wrote:

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

Or as in spontaneous?
Look who I'm asking.
Do we want to know?
Once, on a whim, I spun a car over 360 and slotted into a single parking space backwards next to the most expensive car in the school, a new 440 Challenger.
It was something I had never tried before.
I pretty much drove that car sideways the entire time I had it.
I was very in touch with that car, but I still can't believe I nailed that.

Shaker orange, all the decals.
You should have seen the owner's face, after the dust cleared.
He couldn't even talk.
I didn't even touch the curb with my tires.
If I had thought about it ahead of time, I'm sure I couldn't have done that so perfectly.
I know I wouldn't have tried, between two cars like that.
High school was interesting.
I once threw eggs into a church while they were having a service (possibly a funeral?), and then I broke a bunch more eggs into their mailbox and then knocked their mailbox off with a baseball bat. We didn't just single out the church though, we threw eggs at a bunch of houses and cars and stuff, but the church one particularly makes me feel silly now.

I am proud that I didn't care for David Cassidy or Donny Osmond. I did go to the Osmond ranch with the neighbor girl because I was bored, but I coolly sat by while she dug through the garbage pit. They'd tossed and burned everything the fans had sent, rings, pictures, poems, all half-burned. It was sad.
I dated a guy who wore a black trench coat and carried a satanic bible in his pocket. Rumor had it he carried a gun to school too. I only went out with him because he was cute and seemed kinda bad-ass. It didn't last, he bored me. This was in the 70s, before black trench coats were significant.

I would have simultaneously been extremely impressed and pissed enough to break your face into small painful pieces.gyre wrote:Thinking about it, I think it was a Cuda, maybe with a hemi, maybe 440.Fire_Moose wrote:gyre wrote:
