Not every drunk driver should be a burner!
Besides, we have enough drunks as it is.

Based on how well designed his chair seems to be, this guy be no idiot.
Whether or not he intended to get a DWI or not, he is making a decent profit off of something he made, and taking advantage of a situation, and if he did it intentionally, then hats off to him, as he will probably win the DWI if he goes to court.

It does make we wonder how the DWI laws pertain to wheelchairs ?

I already know you aren't allowed to ride a bicycle drunk in some cities.

Someone wanna hand me a pogo stick ?

The police impounded the vehicle and they were the ones selling it. I just did a search on eBay and didn't find it, but it was going for well over $30,000 on there earlier in the week.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating driving under the influence, especially at the burn. But you have to admit that the idea of driving your chair from bar to bar has a certain amount of appeal.

How do DWIs and wheelchairs work, anyway? They're not that cruel, are they?

I don't know--I haven't tried it. But if you think that it's a minor thing to have 500# plow into someone frail or a baby, even at 5mph...Someone was telling me about some guy in the area who would get pretty fucking drunk and miss the curb cut and fall, chair and all. I guess that if passers by wouldnt' pick him up then it would have been cops or emts. I also think that they weren't particularly pleased to do so.

I think I heard that same chair sold on eBay for over $10,000.00.

I received this info in an e-mail. It appears to be correct after doing a little research.
***************************************
In case any are wondering what ever happened with the eBay auction: A man in Proctor, Minn. had gotten busted drunk driving with his motorized La-Z-Boy chair. Being his 3rd DUI/DWI he had to forfeit the vehicle to the city. While some will disagree, this chair is a bit of an art car, that is at least several of them(chairs & couches) have been at the parade in Houston and out on the Playa at Burning Man.

The City of Proctor put it on eBay to sell as a fundraiser. The auction got lots of publicity in newspapers, on TV news and all over the internet. The chair got several of bids to bring it over $40,000.

A few days before the auction was over, the La-Z-Boy company contacted eBay and the City of Proctor and demanded that they cancel the auction, since the title contained their company name & product, which they felt would be bad publicity, character defamation and was not in keeping with their goals for brand recognition. In other words, they didn't want a drunk guy in a motorized chair associated with their name & branding image.

The City of Proctor re-listed the item without the name La-Z-Boy and didn't even use a variation on the spelling. The chair got bids, but nothing like the previous auction. The chair has finally sold for $10,099. A photo of the original drunk guy sitting in the chair also sold for $710.

eBay site has a discussion forum for many subjects. The one called eBay Motors has had lots of discussion about the La-Z-Boy chair during & after the auction.

One eBay member drove to the city of Proctor to have his photo taken sitting in the chair. He posted it on eBay, including a close up photo that has the original chair artist's name. It is the second photo seen here:
