Clean & Sober Playa Drivers Needed. No Joke!

Post by ohafirenymph » Sun Apr 25, 2004 8:33 pm

If I can create this art car to accomplish what I envision, I'll be busy in the trailer it will be pulling and won't be able to drive.

I would love to have a list of several folks who would like to drive four hour shifts at night. It won't be all driving. Sometimes we'll park. I don't want to disclose more about my project in a public place at this time.

Requirements:
Clean & sober
valid drivers license with NO DUI convictions
ability to driver very very very slow
night vision
great attitude

My vehicle w/ be fully insured and we will NOT be hauling strangers aboard and there will be no room for riders.

You'll get a chance to see parts of BRC and Deep Playa that might not otherwise be available and participate in a project that will delight and pleasure thousands.

So...this'll be sort of like a personal camp vehicle? Something just for you and your friends/camp to tool around BRC in? Is there any interactiviity in/on/about this vehicle for those folks not your friends to enjoy?

Just curious.

I read it more that it would be sort of like a traveling show as opposed to a transport vehicle.

Art car does not automatically mean "bus" or "taxicab", it's supposed to be cool enough to make people enjoy seeing it. If it can give people a ride, that's a plus - and now it's also a liability. Doesn't that suck.

I think it's always been that way Badger even if the law doesn't state that.

I mean, if I was driving a car doing some sort of show on board, whether that be flinging poi or flailing madly in a monkey costume I wouldn't want to accidentally knock someone overboard. I'd feel horrible. And there's nothing sadder looking then a depressed monkey. Or a person with a head wound.

Can wholly understand if the purpose of the vehicle is for toting around a mobile installation. My reaction arises from too mahny experiences where a lot of vehicles are put together for the sole purpose of a particular camp and often with no interactivity with the other 30+ thousand people.

I'm not suggesting that a DMV license mandate that you share your vehicle with any and all pedestrians BTW.

The DMV this year wants names, addresses, numbers, and has lines on the registration form saying things like owner assumes libility for damages, etc.
I'm gonna be real careful about what goes on with my rig. Not like it has insurance... it's a home-made mutant vehicle.

Clarification

Post by ohafirenymph » Sat May 08, 2004 10:48 am

Thanks Badger & otheres for pushing me to make the project a bit clearer.

This IS a Mobile Installation that w/ cause consciousness shifts around and inbetween a shifting time/space continuim for all who "choose" to interact, naturally, physiclaly and/or emotionally with and within the space of materially changing art. Is this clear?

Increased liability cause your girl friend can fall off the top. She or he can be seated next to you in the vehicle. You may even have privacy when we stop here & there.

What's occuring in the trailer? It is not a private space for me & my friends. Room for one other perhaps. It will be an alchemy lab and our task will be to manipulate the art, to cause the population of BRC to "interact" with what they perceive. Or, to manipulate the population of BRC to interact with wht they perceive. Either way, the point is to fuck with your heads and to provide an environment for your brains to play.

Now, who wants to drive?

I sent a carefully crafted email to [email protected] saying I was a careful, cautious driver and was interested in performing the above-mentioned duty as driver.

Since I didn't get the courtesy of a reply email, just for the record, I'd like to state that I'm actually a drug-addicted, speeding freak show on wheels who drives like a maniac.

And, I have real poufy hair and a surly attitude. So, count me as disqualified, and disgruntled to boot.

You Are Heard, if ain't always seen

Sorry Diode, I was travelling and didn't have the hotmail addy w/ me and anyway, I'm a drug addled irresponsible hippie artist with half a fried and chromosome deficient brain and some good ideas. Anyway, I'm email challenged on the best of days when I'm not running around trying to figure out what do alone cause I popped a viagra instead of a mescaline ketamine cocktail.

So, for the record, you meet all qualifications. Esp if you've still got interest and are too old to walk.

Sorry I can't provide more details here about the art itself except to say you'll either be very happy to be id'ed as one of our drivers, or exceptionally embarrased. In either event, do you dance? It's been suggested we carry Mackies!

Oha,

I'm not really disgruntled, just like using the word.

I'm not too old to walk...geez I'd have to be ninety. Heck, I'm still a spry 83 year old (hack, hack). I've been known to dance a bit, but what's a Mackie? My main interest is participating in some cool art and/or performance.

ohafirenymph, just about all your posts are in General Discussion.

Try the theme camps/art installations subject area, under "volunteers wanted" or whatever it is.

I like your idea. Don't like much using fossil fuels on the Playa. Ten, perhaps fourteen, strong and able bodied people should be able to haul this mobile installation around for four hours at a time. Getting them all in one place at the same time could be problematic.
