And escape this fucking heat wave.

Been out working on last minute stuff for the trip. Today peaked at 106 with a heat index of around 115. Absolutely miserable and sucks the life right out of you.

Oh Dave, it will be alright. Remember, nothing could top last year. This year will be so, so,,,,,,boring, quiet, a veritable hippie utopia. So allow us to go in your place, take one for the team as it were, so you don't suffer. Remember, there's always Disneyland. :D

Yeah, driving home from work last night I passed a temp reading of 103 - and this is after 5 p.m.

I love how, for some of us, the desert of BRC is an escape from the heat while others panic about how to handle it.

I just can't wait to get there and hug all the awesome people responsible for me being there.

Including the OP of this thread.

Hear Hear!! To you, and CapSmashy.

Getting out to that nice, dry air will be a serious relief. Been watching the weather and most days in Gerlach are around low-mid 90's. I'd love low 90's with 12% humidity.

Soon, soon enough I will be there.

This made me picture the crows in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds . . . wings settling with a *flit* *flit* *flit* upon the jungle gym in the school yard, 2 or 3 at a time, until their numbers are frightening, while the schoolchildren sing that bizarre, repetitive song . . .

We've been preparing all summer long by not using our AC.

Actually, it has not been above 80 degrees here all summer.

Months plural, for me. I'm not even sure it gets in the 80s at night, here.

80s or 90s, the humidity adds at least 10 degrees and chokes you...but I love the South.

Last night I stepped outside and them cicadas was LOUD!

I'm already excited for Alchemy, the Georgia burn. It's on top of Lookout Mountain, and it's just gorgeous and green...well, I pretty much stay excited for that year-round.

LOL I used to have job transferring home movies to video tape. We'd get a new person, and they'd say (on their first order) "Oh! Look! Disneyland!" Everybody evverybody took movies of Disneyland.... we had a rule that instead of IASW we said "that ride"

three britsh boys need a ride to the playa from Reno

Post by ChubbyBunny86 » Sat Aug 14, 2010 3:22 pm

Hi, I am new to this eplaya thing so bear with me.

I have 3 friends from England coming over for Burning man, I cannot attend and do not have a big enough car to transport them out there.. so how do I go about finding them transport to the playa with the help of our fellow burners?

Is there a certain place I should post?

Thanks.

Izzy
Start a thread in the "Share Resources" Forum. That also has an explanation of the ride share system on the non-eplaya part of the burningman site.
Try Craigslist and facebook and tribe.net and any other place you can think of. And answer rideshare posts that look promising. Some who are offering don't think to check back in the thread itself.

I can't wait either, BUT I need the next 10 days to finish my prep/creations!

And for those 1st timers this year, I can't stress this enough - Go to the event with NO EXPECTATIONS, but DO come well prepared to survive and PARTICIPATE! Sure-fire recipe for fun!

2 weeks till I am in the desert. In exatly two weeks, I will wlk in to my last shift at work before my vacation. work, go home, try to sleep and be up at the wee hours of the morn to fly out to Reno.

How did it get this close? Is it just me or is it normal to feel less prepared as you get closer?

The closer the event becomes --> the more you think about it --> the more creative ideas you have --> more creative ideas remind you that you don't have time to complete them --> remembering you only have X days left.

It's a vicious cycle, sure to drive you mad....

Eh, I am not feeling it so much this year. Probably all the stress with work and kids and stuff. Getting ready for the burn this year seems like it is just adding more. I will see how it feels once I get out there. I'll have about a week on the playa before the event starts, maybe things will kick into gear once I am there.

Have what I think is a really neat secret art project involving the kids in Kidsville that Armadillo is helping me with this year, that should be fun. If anyone is going to be in Kidsville this year and wants to PM me, it would be great to line up some participants for the project. Kids would probably need to be at least 4, it might require some parental supervision for kids under 5, though. It doesn't involve them going anywhere or anything. They can do this project in their normal daily activities. It does involve giving them some materials and then getting said materials back to me when finished. It is only one item and it doesn't make a mess but put together with all the other kids, it might be fun, and you will be able to see the results on the Internet after.
