Good thing this poll has plenty of options.
I'd vote 2010 over 2009 for me, personally, because I got out and interacted with people far more. I have no idea what 2002 was like. What other years did it rain? I didn't expect to enjoy that as much as I did.

Great to hear this year was so good. I didn't go but am mighty curious as to why folks thought it was so.
Here are Cock's notes on the epic year of 2002: the Floating World theme was embraced by the community with incredible breadth and depth. There were all manner of fish and sea critters, ducks, mermaids and men, boats and sail-powered vehicles. Mindblowing big art including Slim's enormous duck bar, Jeremy Lute's lily pond and several other aquatic themed pieces, plus arguably David Best's grandest installation the Temple of Joy. After having been introduced to the playa in '98, el wire was widely used on the playa in 2002 such that the city was lit like never before. It was the first huge deployment of art cars which included Nautilus, Tom Cat's Whale, Ping and probably the most breathtaking and notable art car ever: La Contessa. Finally, the weather was outstanding with one little afternoon whiteout and rain soak. Definitely a breakthrough year in many regards.

Since I wasn't there in 2002, I have to assume it sucked. The people who were there may have a different opinion, but there is no way my totally subjective "best year" would be one I missed.
This year, for me, was my Best Burn Ever.
Was it the art, the art cars, the lights, the rain, the white-outs.......
Nope. It was the interactions with people. Everything melded perfectly for me.
Best art year for me was probably 2006 or 2007. Favorite temple was 2007. Favorite man was 2003. Favorite man-burn was this year, even though I couldn't see most of it through the white-out on the 3:00 side (again- the interactions, and the hot boy on my lap, made it for me)
Like everything else Burning Man related, there is no correct answer.
Except it definitely wasn't 2002 for me

It's a camping trip in the desert, not the redemption of the fallen world - Cryptofishist

Well, as I explained earlier, I can't edit the poll. But, no, 2002 was awesome. Soo, I guess this threads for old timers.Eric wrote:Since I wasn't there in 2002, I have to assume it sucked. 2002 rocked harder than I could believe, for so many reasons. Personal issues made it rough in some ways, however.
2010 was the best burn yet, personally, except that I was solo and didn't have my wife along, which was so sad. Hopefully next year she'll be able to rejoin me out there.
Some of the art (and art cars... La Contessa, Moby Dick, sigh) were better in 2002, some were better in 2010.
I think I have to call it a draw!
