lol I don't mind legalized prostitution. There are safeguards there for both the working girls and the johns. The women aren't forced to work there. We really don't need to be putting more people out of work in this state anyways. Now if they would just legalize mj all would be right in my world.

He evidently thinks the solution to our current economic situation is to close down an industry and unemploy more people.

Many of them are working their way thru college.
Some make so much money that their tuition is paid off as they graduate.

Now you know why I am a Libertarian. Get these Goddamn Democrats from telling me how to live my life. Go to hell. And you Republicans, when the day comes you actually do lower my taxes, abolish the AMT, and start drilling in ANWAR, I will consider voting for you. But abolish the brothels? Well, maybe the Indians can open some up on the reservation. Nixon will need something to bring in the tourists.

I have a friend who just got hired by the Mustang, and she'd be pissed if they shut it down. She's been working strip clubs, porn industry & brothels for a couple of years, and says she gets treated better in a brothel than any of the others.

Her body, her choices.

Sigh.

Her body, her choice. There is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing to be a sex professional. They provide a service to consenting adults. The brothels provide jobs and revenue to small communities. Done.

I thought I was saying that. Damn, I'm losing my touch.

I have plenty of friends of all genders who choose to do just that, some in porn, some as strippers, some as 'hos. I strongly support all of them.

I strongly believe that the criminalization of sex work causes a lot of the problems, not the sex work itself. It would be easier to ensure the workers health & safety if it was legal & regulated everywhere, not just rural Nevada.

I'm starting to think electing Sharron Angle would have been a better choice than Harry Reid. If he was really smart he would keep his Mormon beliefs out of this and let the people of Nevada have their say as they have for years. It's a county by county choice now and it needs to stay that way.

+10. no... make that +20. It's HER choice. Period. Damn good money in the trades, like anything else... IT'S A JOB. (Fraqing victorian puritanical americans!!)

Sorry, but I get passionate about this. WHo is someone else to tell a woman what she (or a guy, as he) , as a consenting adult, can do with their OWN body??? Arrghhhh...

Minor correction.

I don't think it's legal for men or OP* transgendereds anywhere, and some states specifically make oral & anal a felony prostitution sex crime specifically to target gay & transgendered sex workers and stick them with a Sex Offender record.

*OP= Original Plumbing. Generally means transmen who still have their female "bits", but can be used for either gender transition when the original bits are intact. OP transwomen can make A LOT of money in the trade.

You're missing my point, Eric... it's not the STATE'S business what someone does for a living, as long as it doesn't endanger someone else. If I wanted to go into *that end* of the industry (not interested in *any* end of the industry any more, TYVM), it should be MY choice, not someone elses, on pollyanna victorian laws. And that should be the case for anyone, female, male, or in between.

I always shake my head at the guys (it's always guys) who think that gay men, or worse, gay men couples are disgusting and need to have their asses stomped, more so for transfolk, sometimes to the point of death, but get a woodie from 2 women making out - as long as they're young, skinny "sexy chicks", not older women or what they consider "dykes". Whassup with that shit??

It is legal for men in Las Vegas, at least for men servicing women. I recall sometime within the last year hearing on the news here about the first male prostitute going to work at a brothel there, but then hearing a few months later about him quitting because the business wasn't there. I guess women don't use this sort of service enough to make it profitable.

Huh? That's the whole reason Reid's position is so out of character for a Democrat; They may want to make sure you have free medical care, but they don't usually care about what you do in bed.

I agree. Good, quality, well thought out laws and regulations would protect both sex workers and clients from problems that are inherent to the industry.

There are already good laws on the books regulating them. There hasn't been any disease transmitted out of them, that I've ever heard of, and it will just happen illegally anyway.

I like couch Bob's links...... Reid is just a asswipe playing politics with the small counties that didn't vote for him........

In Nevada. In most other states it's still completely illegal, which, IMHO, is stupid.

Especially since the politicians who write the laws sure seem to like visiting them...

The legal brothels have health care services and do testing and require condoms. They have safety alarms in case a client gets out of hand. They are very safe for both the workers (who choose to be there) and the clients (who choose to visit).

Legalizing & regulating puts in place a way for this to exist everywhere. SF is lucky, because our dreaded liberal values allow places like the St. James Infirmary to exist openly. Shockingly, the funding is constantly under threat.
