Oh my,
as quoted from another prominent list:
from the wires..
http://www.pahrumpvalleytimes.com/2004/ ... s/blm.html
note that BLM is only seeking drug and alcohol law enforcement power
and only in Nevada......Hmmmmwonder what they might be planning? good
news is all the local law enforcement is against this, but I'm still
thinking that this needs to be reposted widely and the BLM needs to be
flooded with comments during the commentary period....
I'm sure Kelly and Captain Goddammit may have something to say about this as well as many others.
My goodness!

Wow, thanks for the tip, LF. Bless your vigilance! I was very happy to read that some counties have already decided not to comply with this expanded policing effort.
I must also say that commentary from folks who don't actually live in Nevada is taken..well..let's politely say much more lightly than from folks who are Nevada citizens.
I would NOT encourage a flood of calls or letters from non-Nevadan residents on this matter.
I have forwarded the link on to some folks on the Burning Man board who may be in a better position to act on this, and HIGHLY encourage everyone to pass this on to any friends in Nevada. Burning Man has built a strong relationship with the BLM over the past 14 years, but that's no guarantee of influence.

Except from article;
"Wayne and Helen Chenoweth-Hage spoke in protest of the notice, saying the federal government had never been given the power to enforce law. Chenoweth-Hage, a former Idaho congresswoman, said she hoped the commissioners would encourage the Nevada Association of Counties to submit a "resounding no" to the BLM.
First time I ever agreed with Helen's position!
And to think that she once said, The Salmon are not endangered, you can go to any supermarket in American and see shelves full of canned salmon!

Ditto. Very little on the illegal substance front, anyway. Of course, this is fucked whether it affects me directly or not. Unfortunately, my cynicism about the current state of the U.S. is such that I find it hard to get worked up about. Just another note in the litany of horrors.Captain Goddammit wrote:I do no drugs, and don't drive drunk...
I can easily believe some moralistic Bush-appointed nut in the Department of the Interior would be happy to shoot the BLM's cash cow because he doesn't like Burning Man. Of course cops seek more ways to extend their power. I'm glad some people are opposing this, and I don't know much of what the rest of us non-Nevadans can do except write our own representatives, vote the fascists out in November, and see where it goes from there.
One amusing thought: I hope the only people who get arrested are non-voters.
