Eplaya last will and testament

I was just scanning though all my old PM's here and I'm feeling a bit melancholy about losing all these messages. What if the new and modern forum just doesn't click with me and I drift away leaving all my online friends behind?

Monday is the big day for these changes, and I hope I am prepared for all that's in the future.

I also hope that the nameless, faceless people who have made the decisions, and are orchestrating the change-over are qualified to hold our future in the palms of thier hands.

I keep thinking back on the ticket issues back in January, and hope that we won't have any repeats of the issues.

If things crumble, I will see you all on the other side---at the Meet and Greet at Barbie Death Camp and Wine Bistro on Thursday night.

I hate to see the old board go. She's been there through good times and bad. And thanks to this place I've met some damn good people who I am damn proud to call friends.

She goes down for the count at 7 pm Pacific time on Monday Night...I'll enjoy some Connemara in her honor. If she returns I hope she's better and the voices from the past were listened to and not ignored. If what we get should have been best forgot about...or worse, I hope to see many of you at the Meet and Greet.

It's been a pleasure, and thank you for many years of entertainment, psychological interventions by online intrepretation, ultra long distance tech support, 1300+ eplaya generated bookmarks thanks to posted links, 14 best friends, thousands of acquaintances, and some once in a lifetime opportunities. It's more than a board, and even more than a community. And it's been one hell of a ride. Again...I raise a glass of my favorite Irish Whiskey and say goodbye...

how the hell are we going to burn this memory of our old eplaya at the temple?

I'm really fuckin bummed, this would be like showing up to main gate and instead of greeters, it was Just LEO's and Jesus water.

mabey next year is the year that all burners show up on the playa 5 miles from gate and have the Not Burning Man.

You haven't been around here very long....(although 5 years isn't too bad)
No good deed goes unpunished. This board has been the red headed step child of Burning Man for over a decade. We'll see how the LLC uses this place once it comes back up....will they embrace the lessons they've learned from social media and their dealings with the regionals? Or will this place be business almost as usual? It promises to be interesting to watch, that's for sure.

I read the link above and did anyone sign up for the beta of the new eplaya? Well ya got 20 hours before the the system goes down, can you tell us how the new eplaya is to se? Yup, eplaya is really schweeet! BDCamp MnG here we come.

How about we also meet on another board if things don't go well, FIGJAM sent me a sleep apnea board link, we can loiter there, they won't mind (most are too tired or asleep) and yea, faceblech I suppose, or tribe?

FIGJAM kindly found it for me after I asked him about powering my cpap. I'm workin' on a deep cycle battery set up (or a 150 mile long extension cord, lmfao) I dig the fact my cpap has a humidifier, sucks more power, but it filters the air AND moisturizes my sinuses and lungs.

I haven't signed up there yet but I will; they know alllll about camping with and powering sensitive electronics with clean power and other specifics.

It will look a lot like the syfy forums, forums with sub-topics. Navigating will be a bit different, but Spanky has said they are trying to fit all the old eplaya into the new eplaya. They have skinned it to look similar. Mods definitely have to learn new buttons and navigtating (I was locked out of the main board and could only see mod chatter the firs time I tried it).

I don't think we will have a blank slate. But I am expecting initial bugs, more bugs in the woodwork, some frustration, tears and bitching. Than we'll all settle in and snark and tumble away, BAU.

I'm also surprised there hasn't been a thread boosting fun rumors such as: we'll have advertisements.

The rumored commerce zone has been under discussion, by people who could actually make it happen. THAT I haven't heard one way or the other. It would resolve a number of issues for burners with commercial interests, rentals, sales to fund their burn and so on. Granted, it would create a lot of hate and discontent from purists also, and work to weed out the mass spammers (and snark). Still a rumor of a rumor. But I am in favor of a specific commerce forum. Eplayans could choose to go there or not.

I don't see a real issue with advertising on the side of a forum. It's not like it's going to burn the retnas out of our eyeballs, and if it brings in some revenue to support both eplaya and the festival itself, what's the problem. If someone doesn't want to buy a new Ford Focus or the industrial pack of Trojan condoms, then they don't have to. The biggest problem I have seen, is the people sneaking in an ad in the body of their posts under the guise of being helpful.
