Do People actually bring their computers and get WiFi?
I was wondering this because I remember reading somewhere that people do bring their computers. Plus, where would they charge the battery??
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

There is a limited signal if you're near center camp. Don't expect much, but it does work from time to time. You can bring a power inverter to plug into your car to charge the computer, and you might be lucky enough to find someone with a generator to charge from.
...but really, why the hell would you want to stay in contact with the real world?

I'm bringing a older laptop for djing, but am not looking to have wifi. I'll recharging off of a generator. If you do bring a laptop make sure its one you won't be upset to have destroyed, the dust can get into electronics and do some damage.

Someone on ePlaya was saying not to keep the battery inside the computer except when it's in use; presumably in case the battery starts leaking from the heat. Someone correct me if that's preposterous, but that's what I remember.

but am bringing a netbook to run my weather collection software.
I have a 12V adapter to charge it from my RV batteries.
Apparently charging batteries from (most) generators can damage the. I think the Honda i (inverter)series gennies can safely charge batteries.

That's a good idea. Extreme temps can be bad for batteries, and I believe can cause them to swell. If the battery isn't in the computer, then you're only out one expensive computer battery. If the battery is IN the computer if/when it swells, it could damage or destroy the whole machine (I've seen metal frames bent, and plastic parts broken or cracked).Savannah wrote:Someone on ePlaya was saying not to keep the battery inside the computer except when it's in use; presumably in case the battery starts leaking from the heat. "Real world", heh-heh...
WEDDING via FaceTime: got wifi?
Hello all!
Believe it or not, I have a wedding to attend on the day of The Burn in the default world...via Apple FaceTime! A buddy is going to bring an iPad to the wedding so that I can "be there" and I'll have an iPhone 4 plus tuxedo t-shirt on my end. Any insights (brilliant or otherwise) on where to find the sweetest wifi on the playa? Thanks and see y'all in less than 48 hours!
