Cats and Playa Dust?
Hello fellow burners,
We've been a little slow with the unpacking/decompression and have had several pieces of playa dust coated luggage sitting out. Our two frisky felines have been exploring these interesting and wild scents as they have been biologically programmed to do. Since we've been back, both cats have been drooling profusely. We've had them checked out by the vet, and all tests come back normal, except for the massive puddles of spit they leave behind. It occurred to us today that it could be the playa dust irritating their precious little innards. We've cleaned up the baggage but are left wondering, could the culprit really be the dusty baggage? Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks in advance for your sage wisdom.

It's a natural reaction - I start to drool too whenever I smell playa dust or even think about the playa.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

LOL! Ditto, and ... some times my eyes water "No I'm not crying, I just have playa in my eye"Drawingablank wrote:It's a natural reaction - I start to drool too whenever I smell playa dust or even think about the playa.
To the OP,
We've found that the really really dusty stuff needs to stay contained. Our cats like yours love to explore anything we bring home. They especially love getting inside any type of bag or box, or in this case luggage and rubber maid containers. We noticed that if one of our cats Eddie gets too dusty, as in we forget to close something all the way and then later see him climb out with a cloud of dust, it wont be long before he pukes. Though, if we just brush him and get a lot of the dust out of his hair before he licks it off, hes ok.
As for slobber, I have not noticed anything, but it would make sense. They get dust in their mouth and the natural reaction is to wash it out.
My vet always says "If they're still playing their favorite games, they are fine. If they stop doing something they typically love to do, then we have a problem."
Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Our older cat loves it, but we found her as a stray near Gerlach. She definitely doesn't like anything that looks like a snake, though.

I have all my crap sitting in my living room still, and cat is doing fine. She's not terribly interested in it though. The only time she's ever salivated really bad was after I put some of that advantage flea killer on her. Never did that again, felt horrible for poisoning her.

I have camped with friends who routinely bring their 2 cats to 4th of Juplaya with no ill effects.

That's a good one.
Re: Cats and Playa Dust?
I'm not quite sure if this is a joke or not, but my cats have never had issues with it. Three years, 2-4 cats, playa-covered crap all over (my regional is barely a month later, so stuff just gets transferred).
