I have seven dollars....

Post by International Incident » Mon Oct 03, 2011 6:41 pm

Back from o/s, just paid out a huge amount on bills and don't get paid for 2 more weeks... down to my last 7 dollars. One of my fave books is 3 dollars by Eliot Pearlman - about a guy who ends up down to his last 3 dollars... he goes through hell. I won't - but I should have budgeted better

Trying to think of the most interesting thing to spend my last cash on. Food = boring (there's some in the fridge, and enough cat food for the little buggar) and not enough for more than one beer and I don't play slot machines.

So far my ideas are:
1. give it to the junkie beggar at the station
2. start an internet scamming business (but that's probably free)
3. buy 2 slurpees and have a giant sugar rush for an hour or so
4. buy a second hand harmonica and busk (people might pay me to stop playing)
5. plant it and try to grow a money tree

anyone else got any bright ideas?

I was taught to share when I was a kid. As an adult I was taught the kindness of a community. I'm here if you need me.
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

It's all good... I am just amused at my situation!

So far I've managed to win a free ticket to a movie premiere, a cd (both yesterday) and my inventiveness earned me a $5 prize in a work contest (just announced). So technically I have now have $12 woohoo.

And even better is that we are having freebee drinks in the office tonight!
ice cream.
ooh yes I can buy icecream...I love icecream.

I recently fell in love with the Bakersfield 99cent store. Its not your typical 99cent store. A pad of paper and a pen can keep me busy for days.

Make an origami pipe with one of the dollars, and then proceed to smoke the other six.

Food, food, food! But you said you don't need any for two weeks.
I would spend it on yard sales to see just how far you can stretch those last bucks. Imagine how many cool and useful things you can get if you hunt for treasures. You can also consider selling off some of the great finds you get to try and raise the $7 back while keeping some treasures for yourself.

Maybe if you put your remainder money in a savings account rather than trying to figure out how to spend it, you won't be worrying about cutting your budget so short in the future.

I think you can buy one round of .50 BMG, and bring it with you next year. I know more than one Burner with a rifle for it.

I would buy a chocolate-covered raspberry licorice stick at Walgreen's, and hold onto the remaining six dollars.

i would just hold the $7...and how it will be spent in the next 2 weeks will show itself...perhaps gas to get to a food pantry..or to give a friend a ride who may do a good turn back to you when you are in greater need. hold it...until.

Oh I thought you were talking about real dollars, not that colorful funny money you use down there.

I'd save it so you can buy something you really want, rather than something cheap and temporary.

What a lot of people do that are down to their last few dollars, is to head over to their local Rent-a-Center and rent a 64 inch TV and an X-Box. It always seems like a good idea at the time, and they get to pay 20 times the value of the items. Seven dollars should be enough money down!

Nah we don't call them loonies... but I wish we did as that is cool.

I gave my $7 to a beggar. Made his day.

Well, if you need it back, you could march yourself right over to the beggar and give him a better story than he gave you, and get your $7.

Yeah, because you don't have a loon on your $1 coin. If you had a kookabura, for instance, you could call it a kooka and that would be cool, as well.

oh Ha and bless you sensible types

I think the karma thing played out... I found my lost wallet in my house last night. I had put it in a "safe" place before I went o/s at the start of August - the wallet had $90 in it that I had forgotten about and my charged up public transport card!

I recall now that I had left money in my wallett because I knew I would be broke post holiday.... so it was kind of like being sensible
