STAR TREK VS. STARGATE
STAR TREK VS. STARGATE
welll!!! here we are.. Seeing as we cannot compare Star Trek vs. Star Wars (besides we already had that thread) we have to compare something
Star Trek (roughly 475 hours of stuff, excluding credits/titles over 703 episodes, and 11 films)
Star Wars (6 films total) (holiday special doesnt count!)
no real comparison there!!!
(excluding animated stuff, novelizations and videogames for both)
So.. It seems that the best thing to compare it with is STARGATE
Stargate with roughly 230 hours of stuff, excluding credits/titles over 354 episodes with 3 films.. is sorta comparable
So.. who wins?!
Stargate SG-1 had MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson)
Star Trek Enterprise had Dr Sam Beckett (Scott Bacula)
So we have the 80s cheese TV show covered in both..
Both Stargate and Star Trek are stories about the military..
Both stargate and star trek end up with faster than light starships..
The Doctor (Robert Picardo, Bob) is on Star Trek Voyager AND all three Stargate series.. and he rocks..
so its hard to say.. But I think i might have the answer, and the reason
STAR TREK WINS: (more beards, more babes and more aliens!!)

Re: STAR TREK VS. STARGATE
Stargate was born out of a movie(albeit made for television). Star Trek was born out of a TV show.
Stargate relates present time with interplanetary travel via magical and mysterious interstellar mobility. Star Trek takes us into the future where anything is possible.
Stargate relates us to our Earth-based mysteries of the Ancients of Egypt, Easter Island, and the South American Tribes. Start Trek is a space-based multicultural exploration of places we have little or no relation.
Stargate depends upon a single gadget of enormous value found by chance. Star Trek depends upon generations of human interaction, participation, experimentation and creation.

Star Trek because I''m sure they must've discovered a StarGate, it must be in the lost episodes.

Re: STAR TREK VS. STARGATE
Stargate was a theatrical release (1994). It didn't become a TV series until a few years later, after the movie did well. The gould (whatever, the spellings wrong) didn't exist in the original movie, the alien "Ra" was the last of his race supposedly. They had to retcon bits from the movie to make the series.Trishntek wrote:Stargate was born out of a movie(albeit made for television).
Oh- comparison depends on which Stargate & which Star Trek. I mean anything beats "the Search for Spock"...

Of course, it depends which vs which, but I tend to say Stargate...

Off-topic, as is Babylon 5, though I can't see mounting a space crew without inviting Claudia Christian and Gina Torres.

Re: STAR TREK VS. STARGATE
Stargate the 1994 movie is better than any Star Trek movie with the exeption of maybe Wrath of Khan and First Contact. I love Voyage Home, but Stargate is easily better.
Any episode from any series of Star Trek is better than any episode from any series of SG. Even Enterprise, unless we're talking theme song.

Startrek is better because Stargate is some kind of whippersnapper upstart. End of questions.
And I resent TNG being classified as nothing more than 80's cheese. If there were no TNG there would be no Startrek the Fandom. Period.
Edit: Battlestar Galactica is pretty good though.

I believe that of the fifty million playa rumors, one of the more credible ones involves Patrick Stewart on the playa several years ago.
Figures. The Federation is a bunch of fuckin' socialists anyway. It won't make any difference. I'm an Alien fan. Can't wait for Prometheus this fall.

Whoa! Whoa! Lexx had a lot of social commentary about excess, theology, and consumerism. Heck! The redneck meat episode makes me think of burners every time I watch it. Now an hilarious tv show would be Space:1999, or Buck Rogers (when spiced with 70s experimental film *cough* orgy films on lsd *cough*) ...stinkyfoot wrote:Only if second rate means fucking hilarious.
