Over a few posts it has become clear that at some point some of my (adoptive) Strayan countrymen have managed to upset the esteemed Simon.

It occurred to me as I sat enjoying a stupidly cold and fizzy beer with the king of Straya -after the shearing but before the foyting- that we should really, as a nation, say sorry.

For efficiency's sake though we should add it to the other 'sorries' ...

Turtleburp, that's a start, but there are so many other countries and continents (as well as religions, cultures, monarchies and regimes) that need to apologize to Simon.

Simon, I apologize for anything hurtful that I may or may not have said to your face or behind your back. I am sure that the history books (they do still use books, don't they?) will portray you in the bright and positive light that you deserve.

(And, yeah, my Australian relatives have SHOCKINGLY bad manners when it comes to gassy emissions... from both ends. I remember when my grandma came to visit us when I was a kid... . And, of course, half a dozen people from one family is a perfectly good sample from which to judge an entire country. )

Sadly, this part is (somewhat) true. Lots of Canadians are born with a tan. Lots of others go for that orange spray. But neither is really a suntan.
And even my Australian family members don't really have tans. My family is just that white. FUCK.
