How many people attended 2012 event?
How many people attended 2012 event?
It sure didn't look like 60,000 to me. Looked like 48,000 or so from my untrained dust filled eyes.

I thought I read somewhere it was around 1,000 less than expected, closer to 54,000.

Peak population was 52,385, so lots of tickets went unused (and the event population shrank for only the second time in it's history). Should help keep ticket sales a bit more "normal" next year.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
I don't think it was scalpers. I think it was people just buying as many tickets they could and figuring they could set up their friends who didn't get tickets. When the bottom fell out, lots of people got caught with an extra ticket or two and couldn't get rid of them. I saw some really low prices a day or two before it started.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
I found someone on eplaya posting 130 times selling a couple of cheap tickets.
Various stories.
I'm sure most were more subtle.
Someone pulled them quickly.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
There were tickets on baybay right through the event, though they got "cheaper".
There are three still up, one over $400.
Still, no one would sell me a voided ticket.
I was offering $1.
Someone did post a voided ticket list on there.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
I heard that they collected about 57,000 tickets from someone at the Temple Burn (not the most reliable source, but a number), and that would figure because even in our camp a virgin couple left on Thursday due to overwhelming dust/dehydration. Peak population at 52,000 sounds right with the amount of traffic leaving Thursday and Friday.
Now the speculation on how the 2013 tickets will be sold can start. Back to first come first served? Registration before? One price for all?

That number: (tickets/credentials COLLECTED) is the one I want to see officially from the ORG. I was watching the Gate on Perimeter shifts and we had a lot of traffic leaving all week. Presumably the "peak" population is going to be lower (maybe a lot lower) than the number of tickets collected.danibel wrote:I heard that they collected about 57,000 tickets from someone at the Temple Burn (not the most reliable source, but a number), and that would figure because even in our camp a virgin couple left on Thursday due to overwhelming dust/dehydration. Assuming your 57,000 number is correct and the ORG sold, say, 58,000 tickets... than 1000 went unused.

Interesting.. and this is what I guessed as well. I noticed a steady ebb and flow of people in and out all week and while I could believe that 57k did get collected, a peak of around 53k is more inline with my own observations. We had more than a few set of neighbors roll in at some point and only stay for a few days. Extra special shot out to the Italian asshats that pulled their mega rental RV straight into our front yard in the middle of the night and then proceeded to dump all their gray water in front of our evap pond and bail after 48 hours.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
When I came in Friday morning, two lanes were exiting as one was entering. Yeah, a lot of peeps left early; so daily max was down, but I bet total population was up there for the whole week. IMHO
Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
I believe they sold 60,900 tickets. This is counting the presale, lottery, low-income, and the 2,000 last minute tickets that went into STEP and the second lottery. 4000 unused tickets would not be a surprise to me considering all the ebay, eplaya, and CL listings.offarock wrote:

I too, am waiting for the official ORG count.
And for holy fucks sake let's pray they never attempt another lottery.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
60,900 was the population cap. I believe it was 59,000 tix that were sold. We had greeters in our camp, and they saw a steady stream of fully loaded vehicles leaving as early as Tuesday. We had a campmate leave Wednesday due to illness too. Since the gates opened early on Sunday, my guess is the small amount of dust (by vet standards at least) on Sunday and Monday drove the pussies out, and the max population then is way below actual tickets used.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
The dust was pretty heavy on the side of the city we were on a couple times. Enough so I had drifts of dust in the shade structure. Not everyday, but enough to get oppressive. Enough to drive a newb out for sure.

Sold tickets
Collected tickets
I'm pretty sure I heard they did not sell the 60,900 in order to be sure of compliance this year.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
I got lumbered with an extra ticket because I bought one from a friend when I didnt get one in the initial lottery and the I got one in STEP right at the last minute and couldn't shift the original one.
So I basically paid double for BM this year.
Sucks.
BMORG - for gods sake please will you simply just put names and photos on the tickets and make them non transferable and go back to a first come first served system. This will stop both scampers and people buying tickets when they have no real intention of going.
Simple.

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
The problem with non-transferrable tickets - check out the STEP threads. People who bought them, and then couldn't go at the last minute got stuck with a $400 piece of paper. I was initially for non-transferrable, not any more. I just want to buy a ticket, get it in the mail, and do with it whatever I want (use it, gift it, or burn it).Magpie Sparkles wrote:I got lumbered with an extra ticket because I bought one from a friend when I didnt get one in the initial lottery and the I got one in STEP right at the last minute and couldn't shift the original one.

How many people attended? Oh, boy...good question. I'm bad with numbers...
Maybe 80.
Seems high, doesn't it? Not 80. How about 4? I don't know...I'm so bad at guesstimating...
Okay...there's me...my wife...our plants...we have some candy bars...
Wait, we don't count candy bars or plants.
Well, then, there's just the two of us.
Boy, I really overshot with the 80!

Re: How many people attended 2012 event?
I have religiously checked out all the STEP threads, I myself got lumbered with a $400 piece of paper.... but I am also from the UK and have been going to Glastonbury festival for the last 15 years which is about a zillion times more over subscribed than BM and their first come first served non transferrable ticket system WORKS. People who don't get tickets bitch and complain sure, but it's really the only fair way of doing it.danibel wrote:The problem with non-transferrable tickets - check out the STEP threads. But whatever, I hope they go back to first come first served because let's face it, the lottery/STEP system was a massive clusterfuck.
