I'll pay you 5cents for any posting of yours that doesn't have dangling participles, sentences that don't begin with prepositions, or at least one substantiated claim complete with references.gyre wrote:With all respect I sometimes have no idea what Aserendipity is trying to say.ygmir wrote: *considering if ASD and Gyre are related*
not in a bad way, just your phraseology and hanging participles..........
I try to be clear, but have no respect for form otherwise.
Some of my phrasing is quite deliberate and carefully considered.
And sometimes, well ... you get what you pay for.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
I used to post a lot more references, but so many got removed as "commercial links" I tend not to, especially when google easily pulls up any info.
You can always ask me specific questions.
When I'm paid and published, I am more careful.
People often found it very funny that I posted links and made comments about it, but sometimes there is so much information that I think the links are useful.
No one has to use them.
I am actually not being paid to post here or substantiate anything.
I seldom post anything that isn't easy to find out, but I do find out things that I can't "prove" in court.
This is quite common for any journalist.
There is much I know about local political corruption, but was unable to publish, as my witnesses are scared of being killed.
I recently confirmed many of these allegations, as they are widely known.
You will probably find similar results in most places.
i don't think I've posted very much here about such information.
What? Want an expose on the gold dust baths in center camp?

Wikimad? Knowpedia?
I talked to Larry, he's okay. He's been going through his old room, going to bring home stuff like his Navy boot camp "yearbook" and his old jeans. Yes, he still fits into his jeans from high school. Bastard. He has some 70s disco shirts, but his shoulders have bulked up, so those likely won't fit. I think he should bring them back anyway, I know plenty of burners who would love them.

Geez, Dougly, wikipedia...
I am an editor on wiki and I find it frustrating with such arcane rules.
I very often have information missing on wikipedia, but most gaps on wikipedia are also gaps online.
Vast amounts of history are missing before a certain date.
I have some sustained edits, like the original version of A Nation Once Again.
I had to use oblique online references to substantiate it.
Most I can't add with an online reference.
Most things are not actually online at all, contrary to common belief.
They've moved the lyrics now ... somewhere.
So annoying.

Yes, I'm one of the elite hundreds of thousands of volunteers.
The hard part is understanding the damn rules, which they aren't good at communicating.
Wikipedia may be 10% complete.
Not that hard to find gaps.
I am frankly baffled that you think a commercial flight to europe and an amex tour is some sort of unique, unobtainable experience.
Or do you just think personal viewpoints are somehow ... inappropriate?
You only have to listen to the gossip muckers to know that I somehow control the llc, yet haven't been back to burning man since the beach days.
Spooky, yah?

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
Just boring real life issues.
Happens to lots of people.
Had to move abruptly last year close to the burn.
Already had a ticket.
Missed one year I couldn't get a ticket.
It really hasn't been that long though.
Just more rumour.
Some things are more important.
I hate missing last year though.
With a 4,000 mile trip, just couldn't do it.
Nothing interesting, just real life.
Missed a couple of early burns for spectacular reasons.
Mundane is preferable to that.
Thanks for the thought though.

Morning, MDF
I'm having abuelita chocolate.
Cheers a little
I have a cold again and it seems like everyone here is sick.
Norovirus is closing schools and I hope I can avoid that one.
I hope it isn't rampant everywhere else.

Morning MDF. Thanks for the
Rain, rain, go away? We should get a bit of snow today and tomorrow, but nothing spectacular.
Yggy, Larry sounded fine last night. We were on the phone as he went through his old room. He was unearthing stuff like his old Navy uniforms and his Eagle Scout stuff. As predicted, his coin collections have vanished, but he found his marbles!
Fig, my man, tickety tick indeed! Here's hoping you're doing the Happy Fig Jig soon!

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
These marbles aren't so much a kid's collection, but are Akro Agate seconds or mistakes which Larry had dug up behind the old Akro plant in Clarksburg. He used them for slingshot ammo. My brothers collected marbles (they've passed away now) and one even wrote books about machine made marbles, so I know a bit about collecting. These might be trash, valuable only as decorative pieces, or could potentially be valuable. Some have their pontils! Can't wait to see them.
TL;DR: not regular marbles, factory rejects dug out of the ground.

Fishy, and AntiM.. I love that you know pontils from shinola. Before I look it up, I'm guessing it is some bit of prefinishing, mold marking. Brb. Were marbles handblown glass? Good morning trivia.

Re: The Bar, Volume #4
American machine made marbles, all from the Clarksburg Akro Agate plant.
http://www.imarbles.com/historyofmarbles.php
Akro Agate Company – established in Akron Ohio in 1911, the Akro Agate Company originally packaged and sold marbles it purchased in bulk from M.F. Christensen and Son. By 1915, the company was making its own marbles at its marble works in West Virginia. Their significant contribution was the introduction of an automatic cutoff of hot glass, which further automated the machinery by eliminating hand gathering of glass.
My brother, Larry Castle, was an expert.
http://www.blocksite.com/marble-referen ... e-marbles/
The catalyst for this explosion was the publication in 1990 of the book Collectable Machine Made Marbles by Larry Castle and Marlowe Peterson. Previously (since 1976), the Marble Collectors Society of America had published identification sheets and prices for some machine-made marbles, but the Castle and Peterson book was the first attempt to classify most types of machine-made marbles by manufacturer. Since the publication of the Castle and Peterson book, the number of people collecting machine-made marbles has grown by leaps and bounds. This increased interest and demand has seen the publication of several additional books on machine-made marbles or their manufacturers (see the bibliography for a complete list).
(fuck, now I'm crying because I miss my brother so damn much)
