((((AntiM)))))
A "ponti" is the rod on which hand blown glass is "gathered". The piece itself is created past the end of the ponti. When it is finished it is cut off and annealed in the lehr. It leaves a mark. That's got to be the pontil. Look for it on the bottom of glasses. I recommend the Mexican glasses, tumblers or margharita glasses. The stuff with air bubbles in it. Is the expensive art glass it's got to be cut and polished, because you never see it on those.
I miss working with glass. Not as much as AntiM misses her brother, Larry, though.

Take a day off and go to Benicia. They have multiple glass studios there, and you should find one that will let you watch. I bet you'd find it fascinating.

sounds like a good field trip. I did enjoy seeing some glass blowing on playa, 2011? one of the plazas 4 ish. There's a neat documentary on glass blowers focusing on pipes, bongs, awesome art. Degenrate ArttheCryptofishist wrote:Elorrum

I love Benicia. My father and stepmom used to live there. (God only knows why they moved to Bakersfield.) They have an area there with artist studios/apartments. Have fun fishyfriend!!theCryptofishist wrote:Elorrum

Good afternoon all!
You know I am particularly parched today. Can I just get a drink of water?
What? No water? Isn't this a bar? What's "radical self-reliance" supposed to mean?
All right, I'll take a Maker's Mark and water, hold the whiskey.

When the Beatles white album was fully re-mastered from the original master tapes and digitized losslessly, Manson was asked what he thought of the results.
He said it was just incredible how good they sound now!
With a shrug and a grin he added, "Man, listening to them now it turns out they weren't really talking to me after all."

In early May, four days of Saguaro Man, and now confirmed, in late August, a week of Burning Man!
YAY!!!
**more happy dance**
All that's needed now, is another wonderful Hof Party to round things out perfectly!!
hint, hint
So, now, a hefty drinkie, (or more) and to happy dance until I'm dizzy!

I see that everybody from our camp last year have tickets -- and were on the board just now. Woohoo!
I spent the day servicing Playa bicycles.

Whew, what a day! I'm back home now, seeking treatment for a sometimes debilitating vodka deficiency.
The board really bogged down for a bit there this afternoon, Fishy. We didn't come close to breaking a record, but we did get upwards of 400 or so concurrent users (many of whom were refreshing and posting a lot). I'll follow up with the tech team and our cloudy overlords over the next few weeks, I want to see what we can do to improve performance and scalability.
Booze and loud music, mmmmm

*wanders in, makes CCCP*
Thanks MDF!
Yeah, can't say enough about our Trilo. good man.
Hi Marty!! yeah, I'm really looking forward to a Hofparty.....maybe more than one, since it seems everyone can't make it usually.
It looks like the stove testing is pretty much done, all systems seem working , and darn close to what I want.
The only real issue is the ovens seem to only want to get up to 350 or so at the most. But, I've thought of a work around.
So, next project: Service, fix minor issues and Learn to use my band saw, saw mill to make incense cedar paneling for inside the Hof, and lumber for other projects.
Thanks MDF!

Trilo, I speak for myself here when I say this but I'm sure that others feel the same way:
WELL DONE! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!!
It took me a mere fifteen minutes in the queue until I got to the part where I got the ticket opportunity, aned a mere three more minutes until I got the confirmation e-mail. It felt good, knowing that I'd be returning. Happy Valentine's Day!
