if re-filling the swamp means putting people with education and credentials into positions of power to serve the nation instead of toadies, cronies and bimbos from fox news, well, i'm all for it.

Re: "It's news to me!"
Always in my heart, I've loved the Nordic countries. I spent all of my life believing I was mostly Irish. My sister who has never been further south then Massachusetts, or further north then Maine, decided to go to Ireland. I was kinda shocked. Her daughter got her one of those DNA kits. Turns out we are 70% Scandinavian, 23% English, and a mere 7% Irish. Oh well, so much for heritage. I'm a fuckin Viking !!! That's kinda cool. My northern nephew just added another member to his posse named him Luke. Lil Cool Hand Luke. My southern nephew is still waiting for Sadie to arrive, sometime around Valentine's day. Me? I'm just waiting to live.
Re: "It's news to me!"
Apparently the Mc rib is not on the menu year round because they sell sooooo many that it raises pork prices to the point where it's not cost affective to keep it on the menu.
When pork prices drop, they sell them again. (I've never had one.)

Re: "It's news to me!"
FIGJAM: you're right about the insane popularity if the McRib sandwich, but I see it as a part of an overall strategy of Southern-ication. Think I'm wrong? Here's the evidence:
1) McRib sandwich
2) Sweet iced tea. You can even get it EXTRA sweet if desired.
3)Southern fried chicken biscuits.
4) biscuits and peppery sausage gravy
They have NEVER had Pepsi products nationwide, only Coca cola products. Coke's main corporate office is in Atlanta, Georgia.
A friend of mine has told me that in her home town of Dothan Alabama Mc Donald's serves McGrits on the menu.
I'll know for sure that this strategy is for sure when I see McOkra on the menu. How long will it be?

The OTHER Asian bat virus...
add: massive colonies of migrating fruit bats in Africa drives somewhere between 2/3 to 3/4 of the African continent ecology...
Over the course of a career sampling thousands of bats, Wacharapluesadee and her colleagues have discovered many novel viruses. They've mostly found coronaviruses, but also other deadly diseases that can spill over to humans.
These include the Nipah virus. Fruit bats are its natural host. "It's a major concern because there's no treatment… and a high mortality rate [is] caused by this virus," says Wacharapluesadee. The death rate for Nipah ranges from 40% up to 75%, depending on where the outbreak occurs.
...
There are several reasons the Nipah virus is so sinister. The disease's long incubation period (reportedly as long as 45 days, in one case) means there is ample opportunity for an infected host, unaware they are even ill, to spread it. It can infect a wide range of animals, making the possibility of it spreading more likely. And it can be caught either through direct contact or by consuming contaminated food.
Someone with Nipah virus may experience respiratory symptoms including a cough, sore throat, aches and fatigue, and encephalitis, a swelling of the brain which can cause seizures and death. Safe to say, it's a disease that the WHO would like to prevent from spreading.
...
"Bats play hugely important ecological roles,” says Goldstein. They pollinate more than 500 plant species. They also help to keep insects in check – playing a hugely important role in disease control in humans by, for example, reducing malaria by eating mosquitoes, says Goldstein.

Reports going around that various (suspected most) time systems have no provision for a negative leap second. Speculation/expectation that a negative leap second will have a number of time systems loose sync, then re-sync moments later - instead of crash due to a negative leap second value. Saw an example from late December, from a man who's been credible and also correct when I've been able to verify. He was claiming his wife packaged what she found from a specific individual, including doxing themselves as a police officer. She sent it to the officer's police department. Complete enough that it was verified and officer fired four hours later.

Re: "It's news to me!"
It could also be that, as more information comes out, the story will get even worse, and it will be easier for senators to vote to convict, especially once Trump is out of office. Yesterday’s briefings by the FBI and acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Michael Sherwin gave notice that the evolving story of what happened on January 6 will be shocking and could well involve figures in government. More than 30 House Democrats have called attention to an unusual number of Capitol tours held on January 5, at a time when coronavirus restrictions have largely ended tours. Those tours, combined with the fact that the insurrectionists appeared to have a detailed knowledge of the Capitol complex, have led to suspicions that some members of Congress might have offered aid to the rioters.
