The pantheon of ePlaya

Post by graidawg » Mon Jul 29, 2013 2:57 am

Just as shortly after the creation of the cult of Christianity soon spawned many different cults (Catholicism, born-again etc) and this years theme is cargo cult, I believe it is about time Burning Man and the Cult of Playa Worship had some break-away cults. just as Larry/the hat represents God/the devil and others have various roles so i to believe it is about time we assigned roles to the people of Eplaya.
Now most religions have several common gods. such as the trickster, the all-father, the hunter, the mother etc etc etc, as well as demi-gods or saints, hero and villians. At the risk of getting myself (and others) in trouble does anyone have any suggestions who should fill what role?

Here are a few to get you started

the trickster is in my opinion Simon dela playa
the triple goddess could be AntiM/MyDearFriend/Savannah
Magic (or internet stuff which might as well be magic to me) is clearly Trilo
knowledge/ wisdom Is probably Elliot as he seems to know something about everything
sexuality, Eric maybe?

anyone got any other or better suggestions?

i fully expect this thread to go south before page 2

FIGJAM: God of air conditioning! (yes there is an AC god! He is this kindly, baldish gent who wanders around converting buckets and odd computer bits into cold-makers. Rumor has it he is also working on the whole water-to-wine thing too. Or maybe it was a beer cooler. Dunno!)

I sorta feel you missed it there GD.
Great idea, but, if you look at the "players" here, you'll find they are much more akin to the Nordic Pantheon, and as such, not very "specialized".

For instance, I'd say Simon, in pure intellect and education, may be one of the smartest people I know..........but I'd put Eric, and Trilo right there, too. The Fish, is right with them, I've seen her shred each, at times.
Elliot, is of a great mind, but I'd not say he overshadows FigJam in any sense when it comes to building things.
and in the sense of cognitive prowess, either is probably as smart as Simon or Eric, just maybe not as "educated".
And don't let our Goddesses slide here.......MDF might as well be a doctor, her knowledge is boundless, and ranges eclectic . Savannah, is erudite as can be, as well as AntiM.
And there are so many others........to try to name them all would be a disservice, to the few that would be left out.
You, GD, posses a grand gift of poetry and humor.

I see no clear "leader" in this group, no one better with a joke or witticism.
At any moment, anyone on this board is knows something the others don't, or has a great joke, or pearl of wisdom.
And, talk about compassion!! yeah, we can all be snarky and even mean and rude at times..........but, put blade to flesh, and watch us congeal into a pack of wolves, to protect and help our fallen comrades!!!

I'd follow each and every one of you, round the moons of Nibia, round the Antares maelstrom and round perdition's flames .

as grand a scheme as it is, I see it as moot, and as such.
We each and all, single and collectively are deities. I'm proud to know you all, to serve and be served, by this grand collective.

I nominate saritasari as the Goddess of lost and borrowed things. Cause if she borrowed it, it's lost.

OK, the first thing we gotta make is something to get us outta here because there isn't enough room to build anything that you would come up with!

you are quite right I did miss the point in the sense we are all gifted in our way, some more than others, the amount of creation here is astounding. the knowledge shared and friendships made are strong and binding.
there is nothing to stop a pantheon having 10,000 gods though, each have divinity over something and often those divinitys overlap. it was just a giggle and a moments thought something i was trying to put into words, which sometimes is more difficult than others.
i am stll trying to find the way to express my thoughts.
perhaps mythos would of been a better word - but then i would need to start the thread again with anew subject and description - which if you are trying to start a cult would be good thing, but then i think of you write the rules for a religion down you are doing it wrong (which would be great first commandment)

so maybe

THE MYTHOS OF EPLAYA

we are all gods, spirits or at least divinties sharing our skills and abilities to the enlightenment of those who come to worship at Burning Man in the Holy city of Black Rock, some of us do it using the special power of snark, others through gentle encouragement. Many of us use both to create a better burner and to ensure the continuation of The Principles.
However when ePlaya was created it was to support BRC and BM, now however it has surpassed the purpose and like anything that grows to big for its original purpose it must change.........

ok then it gets a bit fuzzy but it is 3.42 in the morning and that was all inspiration to print with almost no thought
