the dissonance between the revelry and joy of the burn and the bitter anti-BMORG vitriol you read on blogs and stuff is very interesting.

if i really thought the BMORG was extracting too much value for personal gain, i don't think i could get in the right frame of mind to enjoy the event.

it's fucking weird ... which does compliment the event, so there is that. lol

Rhino , This is perhaps not your thread today.

MARTY, how perfectly you describe all of it ! Thank you . Sometimes my Catholic editing causes me to remove the nuances, so Magic Marty, Foxfur, and Fishy took me right to it and I do appreciate you .

But don't forget the East River as a fine waterfront of NYC. Many days spent traversing it have fostered my senses of selfdom.

Foxfur, please tell about your shop.

xoA.

I've had my rendition of that batter fried bacon.
There's a hamburger stand in Sparks, NV that has a cheese stuffed and bacon wrapped, deep fried hot dog. Damn good
Sorry for the double post

Just yesterday, Casey's (local convenience store chain based in Ankeny, Iowa) was passing out samples of their newest creation, the BLT pizza.

New to me, thought I'd give it a try, since it contains the wonder ingredient, bacon.

Bacon on a cheese pizza, with shredded lettuce and diced tomatoes added after baking. It was a very good meal.

The thing to remember about the rumorblogosphere sites is that they are absolutely not representative of the event or the community, in almost any way. Normally when people get tired of the event, they take time off or move on with their lives, but in some cases they get jaded and cynical or somehow feel they've got a bone to pick or an axe to grind. Like any good troll, they feed off the attention, and their stories with hyped and sensational headlines get clicked on and shared and satisfies that need. It may also give them a small payday, depending on ad sales or data mining. Once someone gets addicted to the clicks and the traffic, they abandon all pretense of posting "news" just like most news sites these days are glorified tabloids.

@FIshy - I love those pics and costumes, so amazing!

@Jovankat - people who live in the east bay tend to think that. People who've traveled and food writers from around the world tend to disagree. Your mileage may vary.

@Foxfur - you've got to see the new one. Much bigger, and waterfront real estate!

Hooray for having gotten my bike rack design sorted and all my files ready for the week's work sessions. I've got all my tools and parts together, I should be good to go.

Wow, this is totally like sitting in the bar with some old flame. Sip my iced beverage, nod in agreement, realize half way through, hmmmmm, I think that's me they're complaining about. As for the split in some of the expressed feeling towards the BMorg and the excitement over the event, that is one of the things I love about the event, how it can be conflicted against itself, containing factions at odds and opposed, truly inclusive. Reminds me of my brain. That's right, I have to run and pick up my truck at the mechanic. Peace and out.

there is something to that, too! it's mindfucky like that.

part of the strong feelings elicited by any given factor - be it ticket fulfillment, vehicle passes or profits - is driven from deeply held feelings for and about the event.

i get that. people are like: this is important. don't fuck it up! which is cool.

some of the stuff i read, though, leaves me scratching my head. you really wonder if there is any joy possible in any of it just based on how people comment on things.

anyway, time to leave work and scout out adult beverages.

and there is a souk fundraising party going on in OC tomorrow. if you're living behind the Orange Curtain or in the vicinity, PM me for details!

People are crawling out of the fucking woodwork now, battered by the world and ready to head on Home. 8) Personally? I am way past ready to GTFO of here.

I am sitting here drinking something called Black Toad, a dark ale, and I really should be because I am on call again. :| I guess if they need me sharp they are SOL.

And this beer is really tasty.

Happy 5000th post at the bar everyone!

*checks woodwork*

Yes indeed! Good to see lots of familiar faces stopping in!

Bonfire 6.0 is in progress back here in the holler. I have a new burn spot further back, just me and the local critters this evening.
That and a cold drink is making for a pleasant Friday evening. All is well.

ASD, are you set to go for the OMG ticket sale? I hope things go well for you.

Great to learn about the interesting sites out there in the Bay area. I'll take note of them for future reference. At some point, when my day to day work is behind me, I'd like to come out and work for several weeks at a place like NIMBY or the Generator, or the like. Definitely want to visit the Hof too! Ah well, all in good time.

*pours drinks for all*

Ok, enough of my drivel, back to playa prep fuckos!
