When the fastest computer available was a sharp pencil and a clean piece of paper.
When automobile heaters and radios were optional equipment and auto air conditioners were not available for any price.
And, when the toilets on airplanes were stainless steel cabinets with cold stainless steel seats.

You had your choice of three different slide rules, depending on how much you could afford.
When the entire machine memory space was 64k, the operating system took 4k, and the boot rom took another 2k. The disks were 8-inch floppies and held about 160k each.
(of course, all of this was a huge improvement over punch cards!)
A vacuum tube diode was called a "Fleming valve".
Now I do feel really old...

You could go to a "walk-up" outlet to buy tickets to the Burn - and they still had them available a few days before Gate opened. If that was too much work, you could just buy them at Gate. (does 4 years ago count as "so old"?)

I remember (ok barely, but whatever) when certain radio stations refused to play Olivia Newton John's song Let's Get Physical.

Re: I'm so old I remember when...
Yeah! I remember my dad giving me .50 cents to go to the corner Mobil station to get a gallon of gas for the lawnmower. I'd get the gas can, hop on my "candy-apple-red-American-Made-Schwin-stingray" and peddle to the gas station, get the gas, then go to store across the street and get a candy bar with the change, and still bring him a few cents change. Why did I go to the store for a candy bar, some of you younger burners may ask? Because gas stations didn't double as a convenience store back then.TT120 wrote:I remember when gasoline was 36 cents a gallon.

I remember anticipating the annual broadcast of the Wizard of Oz like a holiday, and when color t.v.'s came out, we wished and hoped to be invited to the one neighbor's house who had one so we could see it in color.

The internet didn't have a name. I would load games onto my commodore or Vic 20 cassette tapes. The printer cost $500 dollars and was as big as the bin you pack dishes in for the burn.
Candy bars were 5¢ and much bigger than they are today.
Parking was free at all L.A. beaches. The only thing you could buy was soda, nachos or ice cream. (We had to go almost 8 miles down beach Blvd. to get food.)
NOBODY sold bottled water.
We rode our bikes all over town and came home for dinner.
You could go to Barstow and bring home tortoises. (We painted our address on the back and the neighbors would return them if they strayed).
Movies were 50¢ for a matinee.
Thrifty's had 10¢ cones.
Dad would give us a dollar to go the the carnival.
Minimum wage was $1.56.
I fed 3 adults on $15.00 a week.
Rent was $125 and when we bought the house the mortgage was $185 Including taxes. The house cost $29,500.
I could go on and on. BTW...I don't miss any of it. THESE are the good times.
