Re: I'm so old I remember when...
My first movie theater, The Dennis, in Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, PA had 1200 seats, 100's of which were in the balcony. That was the best place to see whose fattened popcorn box could hit the screen during the Saturday 32 cartoon marathons. Thru great love and patience, a group of friends saved it to this day, although in the '70"s, it was "twinned" and later twinned again. But, I remember when......
Re: I'm so old I remember when...
I remember when people used paper and pen in a book to record life in a way so as not to forget things. Like you could not get hacked and change the paper of history. Like it seems these days people don't put anything together, and find out for themselfs, they just go on what other people say. It's like best guess feeling, all first surface, no memory data.

Re: I'm so old I remember when...
The first TV remotes (like magnavox) had heavy duty buttons that clicked really loud.
Remotes used to be called "clickers".
Before Cable TV we used rabbit ears to tune in the channels...
When cable did come out... I wanted my MTV. And the cable channels where letters a-z
Pong was the dominant home entertainment system...Atari hadn't even come out yet.
Monitors used to all be green monochrome. Then white on black came out I was thrilled.
When Van Halen, Ratt and Black Sabbath was the shit!
When polyurethane wheels came out.
Buying cigarettes from vending machines...
When sodas came in Glass Bottles...and they got washed and re-used over and over..
When most people (hold outs) still had Black and White TV's or even a Vintage Tube Radio in the Livingroom.
When there were radio programs still on the airwaves.....
When parking tickets were only $22.00 in San Francisco. And there were poker machines in all the bars...
When florescent colors were hip....
When all that cool 70's decor was still on the walls....
When Bob's Big Boy was where you went for hamburgers...
When Evel Knievel was still jumping buses...
When Howie Mandel still had hair...
When disco was king the radio.... (hated disco when I was a kid)
When NWA first album dropped...
When Bill Cosby, Captain Kangaroo, Mr. Rogers Neighborhood where still on TV at 5-7 am Saturday...

I remember when in order to place a long distance telephone call, one had to dial 'O' for operator and tell her if it was a Station-To-Station or a Person-To-Person call.
Somehow, it does not seem like it was all that long ago...?

Funny that! Brought back memories of making a long distance international call from Malaysia back in the 70s.Meat Hunter wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 11:42 pmI remember when in order to place a long distance telephone call, one had to dial 'O' for operator and tell her if it was a Station-To-Station or a Person-To-Person call.

You would call the operator and give the particulars of the party you want to reach, hang up and wait.
Operator would then wait for a satellite circuit to become available to connect your call and call you back.
The echo and delay was comical.

Re: I'm so old I remember when...
I'm so old I remember marching along with Peacenicks and Yippies from the Lincoln Memorial to the Pentagon. The Peacenicks wanted to make their point how the Vietnam War was no good, the Yippies wanted to levitate the Pentagon (just a few inches would do) which therefore would end the war.
It was peaceful and typical for the times socializing and singing during the night until the MP's moved aside and let the Marshalls come in swinging with their billyclubs.

Another thing I remember when I was growing up. One year on vacation my family visited St. Louis, We went to Forest Park and the St. Lojis zoo. Walking across the parking lot, at a distance we saw a small mustachioed gray haired man - none other than Marlin Perkins! Anyone still remember Mutual of Omaha's "Wild Kingdom"? Fun TV to watch in the old days.

Which is why I told the folks working with me to not use the abbreviations, and spell it out, like with FWD. It was conceivable that they would take the FWD to get the FWD, put it in FWD, and get the data. They should have said they'd be getting the four-wheel drive vehicle to get the falling weight deflectometer, put the recorder in forward, and get the data. The garbage men picked up our trash cans by hand, the milk man delivered to our door, we never locked the house, a gas war brought the price down to $.19 a gallon, no one had ever seen a ten speed bike, kids walked to grammar school, every kid joined the scouts, only one kid on our block had a tv, nobody's mom worked outside the home.
