Hey YG, good news! That batch of cranberry is now up to 7.6% and still bubbling nicely. I use sweet mead yeast. Not much else to report here, had another blitz of cold the past few days, but with any luck the worst is now over.

I've not flavored mine, but, am thinking of elderberry, since, I have a bunch..........

I wonder what it'd be to distill mead?........

*enjoys the exploding fireworks in the parking lot from the roof then enters the bar ninja style by the skylight and begins loading up a plate with the brunch that's sitting out while hanging upside down from the grappling hook rope*

Thanks LF this oughta hit the spot nicely

8swings out of the way of the table lands on feet flicks rope releasing grappling hook and catches it with free hand sets plate down coils up rope and looks at plate of food*

Hmmmm....a good stick to your ribs brunch so lets see...ah yes a good thick oatmeal stout.

*pours the drink and begins eating*

Well, YG I think what I'm finding is that whether or not the the flavor is an aftertaste or really noticeable part of the drink itself really depends on the fruit. Like the raspberry I made a few years ago you definitely knew it was raspberry while you were drinking it. The sample of cranberry I took when I drank it I was disappointed at first because I wasn't tasting the cranberries when I took the first few swallows, then when I went to take a couple more swallows I was like WOW! that really is cranberry. I'm also finding that if the fruit is frozen and thawed you get much more flavor out of it.

The way I flavor is to ferment for one week in one of those five gallon pails with a spigot and the lid just set on top no airlock or anything then transfer the brew through a screen into a carboy with an airlock and ferment to completion.

I'm definitely going to try a batch of elderberry when we get some that ripen this fall. who know I may even be lucky enough to use my own honey too. I got my hive and beginner beekeeper equipment a couple weeks ago. I found an awesome site that really gave me the confidence I needed to bother keeping bees it's here: basic beekeeping.

Hmmm, distilled mead you say? All the flavor, more of the alcohol, I guess the worst you could really do is to try it and see :D
