I love the webcam.
I hate that fucking webcam. It reminds me yet again that I'm 1000 miles East in Denver and NOT IN BLACK ROCK CITY.
(I don't miss the traffic one bit though, although I do miss Jungo. But I intend to seriously spank Jungo Road next year!)
LeChat, you're not going this year?

Hey Kinetic,
Sadly, it’s true… I won’t be in the desert this year. ow that the event has started, I'm sort of resolved to it. I guess.
Good God, fciron… that’s funny. Or sad. No, wait… I think I’ll say funny. That is until around 9:30 tomorrow night when I’m thinking about the sun just starting to set on the Black Rock Desert and the whole city beginning to howl. Jeez…
Whiskey all you week you say?
Perhaps a spritz of playa dust to spice it up?
At least we had Yearning Man. Understated, yes… but true to its theme.

Actually, this is year #2 I've had to miss. Long story short and without turning it into a pity party I'll just roll the facts.
1: Since losing my job on August 17th, 2007 I've been out of work except for one 4 month contract. Unemployment and family have carried me through.
2: Lost my house, SUV, got sued for 7.3 Million dollars over a simple fender bender, ended up settling for $100K. (Ain't no shame in admitting what's on the public record!)
3: Filed Chapter 7 and blew the rest of the crap away, left Nebraska and moved to Colorado to start over 1 year ago and pick up the pieces.
4: Can't find work here, medical issues are mounting, and I'm collecting medical records and stuff to see if an attorney will help me file for permanent disability. The way things are going I seriously doubt I will ever work in the IT field again.
So here I sit in Colorado...got beautiful mountains to look at, got a kick ass fiancee who loves me enough to carry my sorry ass, and I still have hope that there's better days ahead. Things were looking up earlier in the year...and we tried to move forward and now we have a baby due in December...but with things not improving and now getting worse...well it's just a little bit rough right now to put it mildly. But we'll pull through, we always do. I just hope things improve enough that I can take some of the stress off my fiancee...she does so much for me...without her I don't know what I'd do!
So enough of that...I'm going to go back to watching the webcam, sniffing some playa dust that I still have around here....and thinking about what the hell to do next. But at least I know I'm not alone in staying home this year. And I'm not the only one struggling too. But rather than complain like I used to, I spend my time working on solutions...and I have hope things will get better or at least manageable all the way around. Just gotta keep fighting!

LCN and Karine:
It has been a while since I saw you on the board, don't know if our paths just did not cross, or you been gone for a while but welcome back. It has probably been a while since you experienced a week like this in the bar, it gets rreeaall qquuiieett in here. I know you were not able to go to the burn, but hope things are going well for you otherwise.

*Poo comes skipping into the Bar, flinging daisies all over the place, giving out kisses and hugs, singing a happy sunny song*
Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Zip-A-Dee-Ay!
My oh my what a wonderful day!
Plenty of sunshine heading my way!

Good to see you here. It’s true that neither Karine or I have been online much lately. Busy with projects and work (a blessing these days for certain). I guess this week seems appropriate to be in The Bar since we’re still working and creating like we would be in the desert, but instead it’s on our farmhouse this year. New porch completed a bit earlier in the summer and the Board & Batten siding was completed today. Still some trimming to do and fascia to make, but that’s easy compared to the stuff we’ve already gotten done.
Did I read somewhere that you’re thinking of going to the desert at some point?

Good luck on the house, I have been working on mine for years, and I still have a long way to go. It seems like projects keep popping up faster than I can finish them. Guess it does keep me out of trouble though.
I am considering the playa at some point, when depends on how things fall together. While I know I am supposed to go with no expectations, I have to ignore that on one front. There are several people I have met here on eplaya, and I expect to meet them in person on the playa. Therefore, one of my constraints is to go a year when most of them are out there also. I know I could have met several this year, but there was too big a hole with so many missing. I also need to decide whether I want to go small or big, and if I go big, just what do I want to do. I kind of compare it to some of my backpacking trips, I have been gone for more than a week starting with a 35 lb pack, but I have also headed out for a weekend with a 90 lb pack. Both trips are fun and rewarding in different ways. There are a couple other issues I need to work through, I guess when the time is right all will fall into place. Until then I will just monitor the boards, and continue my primary job of keeping the bar open when most are gone. For some strange reason, I tend to post a lot more when nobody is around, just another strange quirk in my personality.
Back to your house, I will give you a small piece of advice, assuming you swing a hammer with your right hand, always know where your left thumb is. Years of experience has taught me that this is the best target, even if it is moving, but the first good hit is always the hardest to land, it comes very easy after that!!!!

I gotta get this BMIR Monkey Music CD from the guy who made it!!!
All I know right now is that he lives in Portland. Didn't catch his name.
I just know they played all those monkey songs for me because I couldn't
make it to the playa. It's all about me, you know.
*slinks over to jukebox and bumps it with butt*

Nobody to dance with. *sigh* That's okay. I'll dance with baby RJ!!! WOOT!!

Well i'm sitting here in the back yard, got the chimenaria flaming, a glass of Mango fruit juice and rum with the laptop listening to Envy camp and watching the man go in and out of dust clouds.
almost good enough never to buy another ticket
only kidding!
But at least i'm not sucking dust
Come over the bars open!
