I expected to meet great people, and I did.

I expected there to be all sorts of people, and those expectations were surpassed.

I also expected that the open environment would help me come out of my shell more than it did.

As much as I had tried not to I had hopes ( kind of expectations ) that I would meet a soul mate. I would be moved by the experience profoundly and it would be life changing. I didn't and wasn't, but letting go of those last things opened me up to get the most out of the experience.

The soul mate thing is pretty common I think. Also a common point of dissapointment.

Good night Sputnik.....

As long as I'm talking about expectations I might as well also say that;
I carried the weight of knowing I was going to be laid off soon after I got back and felt like the beginning of a whole new life would begin at Burning Man. As it turned out I don't think I was ready for a whole new life, or maybe I really didn't need a whole new life. The one I have is pretty good.

Maybe it all come down to" where ever you go there you are".

I *know* I missed a line in there somewhere... Sounds pretty bad.

On that same thread, I wanted a change of my life circumstance pretty bad at one point, and was willing to give up everything to get there. Call it a bad set of life circumstances getting worse. While I didn't give up *everything* it was damn close. The end result was, however, awesome. My family and I are close again, my daughter and I, who were not close for years, are tight as kittens shoulder to shoulder at the kitty titty city, I have a best friend who I am extremely compatible with (so much so we bought a house together - used to be I'd as soon shoot someone before I'd live with them, my ex- included), and speaking of, I started getting into stuff I was into when I was a kid and before I got tied down to my ex- (like shooting sports, climbing, camping, and other cool things that allegedly weren't considered part of my "proper wifely duties" >>yeech<<)...

ANd things *still* change - and even tho they may seem sucky at the forefront, they always end up being a huge blessing.

So even tho change sux, Zule, it'll work out. It always does.

(and here's a Guinness from the reach in, just 'cuz!!)

Hey Z and cowboy!!!

(looks left, then right nito the darkness of the Bar)

I suppose both of you are actually gone by now, but no matter...Good evening to you both.

I had several conversations here about the expectations thing. It was, at least for me, impossible to not have some sort of wonderings of what might lay out there waiting for me. I told myself that it was ok to wonder about things and imagine what I might see and do, heck... I had to do that to stay sane while waiting for time to head west. But when we pulled up to that gate a little after midnight on Monday morning, I let all of those ideas go and began to just let it be what it would be. It was everthing I imagined, none of it, and something else entirely. Oh, man... what a wonderful thing.

Hey BBSue... just saw you over there. How are you this evening?

I’ve heard it said that the only constant is change. Cliche as that may sound, it’s true none the less. Seems that if I just accept things for what they are and cease trying to force them into what I wanted them to be, then it gets easier... at least a little bit. I try to be like a leaf floating down the river. Sometimes you crash into rocks, sometimes you just float along all easy-like. Either way, so it goes... just as long as you’re still floating.

Hey Noir, good to see you. yes that is what I was talking about. I had thought I had let them all go but during a brief depression and disappointment in the middle of the week I discovered those things I had still held onto. getting rid of them was the key to having an incredible time.

Thanks BBS

It is tough to let them go, isn’t it. Takes practice... like a lifetime of it, I suppose. heh, heh...

How are you Z? New job going well I hope?

It was hell at first making the transition, but it's going well now. I can't say I like it as much as the last job...( yet ) but it will take more time to for me to make my place in in the organization.

Busy, very busy. I’m heading to bed soon, too. Long day tomorrow... and a long summer after that. Much to do between now and heading west.

*pop*

Just office cleaning - had Shelli's family over - kinda fun - love entertaining, and that rocks!!

Also dug into my wine collection for the occasion, couple nice late 90's cab's. None vinegar, so I was doublehappy!!!

Post by joel the ornery » Tue May 31, 2005 2:15 pm

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

Wanna tell you a story,
About the house-man blues
I come home one Friday,
Had to tell the landlady I'd-a lost my job
She said that don't confront me,
Long as I get my money next Friday
Now next Friday come I didn't get the rent,
And out the door I went

So I goes to the landlady,
I said, "You let me slide?"
I'll have the rent for you in a month.
Next I don't know
So said let me slide it on you know people,
I notice when I come home in the evening
She ain't got nothing nice to say to me,
But for five year she was so nice
Loh' she was lovy-dovy,
I come home one particular evening
The landlady said, "You got the rent money yet?",
I said, "No, can't find no job"
Therefore I ain't got no money to pay the rent
She said "I don't believe you're tryin' to find no job"
Said "I seen you today you was standin' on a corner,
Leaning up against a post"
I said "But I'm tired, I've been walkin' all day"
She said "That don't confront me,
Long as I get my money next Friday"
Now next Friday come I didn't have the rent,
And out the door I went

So I go down the streets,
Down to my good friend's house
I said "Look man I'm outdoors you know,
Can I stay with you maybe a couple days?"
He said "Let me go and ask my wife"
He come out of the house,
I could see it in his face
I know that was no
He said "I don't know man, ah she kinda funny, you know"
I said "I know, everybody funny, now you funny too"
So I go back home
I tell the landlady I got a job, I'm gonna pay the rent
She said "Yeah?" I said "Oh yeah"
And then she was so nice,
Loh' she was lovy-dovy
So I go in my room, pack up my things and I go,
I slip on out the back door and down the streets I go
She a-howlin' about the front rent, she'll be lucky to get any back rent,
She ain't gonna get none of it
So I stop in the local bar you know people,
I go to the bar, I ring my coat, I call the bartender
Said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want?

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
Well I ain't seen my baby since I don't know when,
I've been drinking bourbon, whiskey, scotch and gin
Gonna get high man I'm gonna get loose,
Need me a triple shot of that juice
Gonna get drunk don't you have no fear
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

But I'm sitting now at the bar,
I'm getting drunk, I'm feelin' mellow
I'm drinkin' bourbon, I'm drinkin' scotch, I'm drinkin' beer
Looked down the bar, here come the bartender
I said "Look man, come down here"
So what you want?

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
No I ain't seen my baby since the night before last,
Gotta get a drink man I'm gonna get gassed
Gonna get high man I ain't had enough,
Need me a triple shot of that stuff
Gonna get drunk won't you listen right here,
I want one bourbon, one shot and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer

Now by this time I'm plenty high,
You know when your mouth a-getting dry you're plenty high
Looked down the bar I say to my bartender
I said "Look man, come down here", he got down there
So what you want this time?
I said "Look man, a-what time is it?"
He said "The clock on the wall say three o'clock
Last call for alcohol, so what you need?"

One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
No I ain't seen my baby since a nigh' and a week,
Gotta get drunk man till I can't even speak
Gonna get high man listen to me,
One drink ain't enough Jack you better make it three
I wanna get drunk I'm gonna make it real clear,
I want one bourbon, one scotch and one beer
One bourbon, one scotch, one beer
