PANIC!! Button of DOOOOOM!

Post by 1durphul » Thu Sep 18, 2014 8:12 pm

It seems that every single day there is some news story indicating that all of us, each and every single one of us, will be dead by the end of the week.

I suggest we collect them for historical purposes so that we may forever relive the near catastrophes we have escaped each day.

For me personally I am feeling a great sense of Panic about the 2014 West Africa Ebola outbreak. Todays most recent news story about Sierra Leone shutting down for 3 days to identify potential victims, and the UN Security council meeting on a health issue for only the second time ever, well, let's just say I'm freaked the fuck out:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/09/1 ... 5244.html?

The thing that really gives me concern though is that I've been watching this graph getting updated weekly on the Wikipedia article about this breakout since July and that red line just keeps getting steeper:

i'm very afraid of a belch of methane from under arctic permafrost that could cause abrupt climate change. methane is 20-times more potent than CO2.

Beware the Mellow Yellow - about 4.7% of the world slip and die on a banana peel a day (usually slip and fall on concrete or something hard which is what kills them). Found on the internet so it must be true :D
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

One monster CME is all it would take to send us back 200
years ago. Or one good smack upside the planetary head by a good-sized asteroid. You can confront all of these fears, and realize how many times these things have already happened, at http://www.spaceweather.com. :)

thing about ebola is: they fear it may mutate and become airborne so that you can catch it like a cold

ocean acidification due to global warming (CO2 being absorbed by the oceans) could cause extinction of all the fish that depend on plankton or pteropods (not able to form shells). many are saying we're very close to the tipping point.

on facebook, i'm a member of the Near Term Human Extinction group, which believes arctic methane will fry the planet.

Just watch. It'll mutate to that point, and then shortly after one of the major pharms will announce a preventative.
Yes, no suspicious pattern there.

It is not possible today to develop a vaccine or treatment as fast as an airborne with that incubation period can spread. Happy Friday!

Maybe the world will get lucky and an airborne ebola will kill it's victims faster than they can effectively spread it.

You're missing the point.
It doesn't have to become airborne. The manufactured frenzy of it - illustrated with a handful of 'cases' - will trigger the pandemic for the anitdote, and more people will go broke as a result.

Oh, neat, the Wikipedia page's ebola graph uses the same file name when it is updated, so that chart at the start of this thread stays alive.
