Yankees - 184.4 million. its not always the money, sometimes luck plays in there as well.
I would like to see strict caps as well, and I definately would like to see teams foot the bills for their own stadiums, rather than a city selling bonds or other public funds to that extent.
thats my 2 cents

What'd the Dodgers <patooey> get for their $108 million this season?
Sure, the Yankees won three times during the ten previous seasons, but three series went to the Marlins & D'backs, and the pennant games are usually a hell of a lot more entertaining.

Yankees try to institute a new incentive payment item- Historical Records!
To help persuade A-Rod to negotiate a new contract, the Yankees are willing to pay A-Rod an incentive award for achiving historical records. Now they only have to get the Baseball commission and the players union to accept this new form of player payment!
I wonder if this kind of payment would only add to hurt clubs without the history that clubs like the yankees and dodgers have now that many clubs are better financially managed then back in the 70's or earlier.

Well it looks like all the players are back together again. No major trades yets and Sabatina is about the only great pitcher still left. Will he go to the Yankees or Red Sox or who else? He sure is a Prize.

It's not going to happen. Remember is wasn't a banned substance until 2005. So it will turn out to be a dark chapter of baseball. It's sad that all sports had to go though this, but the stakes are high and the pressure is too much for some people. Lance Armstrong to Marian Jones all did it. What should we do with the olympic records when the eastern block were all doing performance enhancement drugs.Kinetic V wrote:I feel sorry for everyone at the Elias Sports Bureau that will need to go back through and add all those asterisks to the record books and day to day baseball statistics. Thats gotta suck.
I think about those that didn't do the drugs and still broke records. A-Rod if he stays healthy will break many records including the home run record, but one record may not be broken unless more games are added like the annual home run record.

I don't think they'll find any trace of the coke he took as young man, but I'm sure he's still loaded with heavy metal impurities and viagra isn't a bad substance anyway.
Should Torre get an Asterick next to him name for steroids use or should Steinbrenner?
Torre is a past Batting Ave Champ and part of the pre-steroid age. He had no control over what his players do to themselves, but Steiny had placed enormous pressure on his slave-boys (players) to produce or get canned!
Steiny should get the *Asterick*!

The Goose makes Hall of Frame Writers snubs Jim Rice and Mark McQuire. But next year is Rices year and Mark will be signing this tune by Clemens, "I got another [expletive] question the other day about the Hall of Fame," Clemens said, nostrils flaring, as he prepared to bolt. "You think I played my career because I'm worried about the damn Hall of Fame? I could give a rat's ass about that also. If you have a vote . . . you keep your vote. I don't need the Hall of Fame to justify that I put my butt on the line and I worked my tail off. And I defy anybody to say I did it by cheating or taking any shortcuts."
Rice also figured to attract more votes in the wake of the Mitchell Report.
Rice hit for power in a day when power numbers were legit. He was the dominant slugger of his time, a man capable of inducing an intentional walk when the bases were loaded. He amassed more than 400 total bases when he was MVP in 1978. He hit 35 homers with 200 hits in three straight seasons. He was more feared that Tony Perez, who is in the Hall of Fame.
You ain't in the Hall you ain't nobody!
Not really, but close.
