I married my favorite burner and TamaraKay helped!

Post by Jovankat » Wed May 27, 2015 4:05 pm

Hello ePlayans!

I've been around here a bit less in the last few days because I was doing last minute organizational things for my wedding!

American Husband (formerly American Boyfriend) and I met in 2013 when we were members of the same camp. On Friday night a big group of us went adventuring on the playa and everyone else went off to do their own things one by one until it was just us and another friend. I was getting cold so we all headed back to camp. Sam, the other campmate with us, decided to go back out and so it was just the two of us sitting on a couch in the camp dome and Chris shyly asked me "Would you like to cuddle?" So that's how it all started.

What followed was a 12,000km long distance relationship with with lots of Skyping and the occasional international trip to visit each other. In 2014 I spent 10 weeks in the US and we ran a 50 person first time theme camp. Burning Man has become a pretty big part of our lives! :)

5 weeks ago we spoke to an immigration lawyer to find out how best to go about getting to spend all our time together in the same country. We were expecting to have to file for a fiance visa and wait 6 to 12 months but she said to get married asap! The very next day as I was working out the logistics of said wedding a package arrived from ePlaya's very own TamaraKay with a shoulder wrap and some rings made out of nails salvaged from the man ashes. These were thank you gifts from her Dye With Dignity Indiegogo campaign. My plan for the rings was just to add them to all my other swag on my Camelbak. When I opened the package one of the rings literally fell in my lap. I picked it up and instinctively put it on my finger to see if it would fit. It fit my ring finger perfectly! The other ring was way too big so I messaged TK and asked if I could buy another closer to the right size for Chris and she just sent me a selection of them to make sure I got one the right size! Thank you so much for your generosity TK! I really feel like that package arriving when it did was playadipity. Having those rings added an extra layer of meaning to our ceremony. Chris didn't even think we were going to bother with swapping rings much less that I'd managed to get ones so special.

Here is a picture of me showing off the ring;

More pictures here if you're interested.

Thank you thank you thank you TamaraKay, you're wonderful!!!

Congrats! I've always been curious though, what's the deal with calling out the boyfriend-now-husband's nationality? Growing up, I knew a few people who used descriptors like that to call out someone they were seeing, but it usually had to do with them seeing multiple people and wanting to differentiate them from the other... so friends wouldn't be confused about which one they were talking about.

Looks like you nailed it!

May your lives together be twice as good and twice as long as you imagine.
Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.

Trilo--
At the time they first started dating, there was an Australian boyfriend. So you nailed it.

Best Wishes, Jovenkat!*

Close but not quite...

Canberra Boyfriend (who lived in Canberra, 3 hrs south of me in Sydney) came along after american Boyfriend. We were all poly so the possibility of other boyfriends (or perhaps girlfriends) was part of it. But it was also because when I first started talking about him a lot of my friends in Sydney would automatically think when I said "Chris" I was referring to a good friend of mine who I worked closely with. So that was confusing and a little bit awkward since that Chris is kinda like a dorky annoying older brother to me.
