Dismaland Banksy Cacophonous Theme Park

Post by some seeing eye » Thu Aug 20, 2015 12:12 pm

Banksy is a UK-homed street artist. This mysterious individual with no real world identity may have participated in Burning Man. If you are not familiar, worth looking up.

And Banksy may be behind Dismaland, a short term event in Bristol UK, a beach town maybe like Santa Cruz plus an arts infusion.

Children's Fairyland in Oakland inspired Disneyland. Disneyland, Burning Man and dark elements are remixed to make Dismaland. But you are not allowed to camp out over night in Dismaland.

If I were visiting the UK in the next month, I'd love to stop @ Dismaland . . .

Love Banksy - the art makes me think.

If you watch the video SSE linked, you can see Mike Ross' Big Rig Jig sculpture at Dismaland:

When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

I'm moving this over to Open Discussion since it's a better fit.

From the images I've seen, it looks like there's some really cool art there (the castle, the armored van in the pond, the "birds" woman...). If only I had money. And a passport.

The birds woman is really cool. So is "glitchy Ariel"

Some NPR show mentioned Burning Man when presenting about Dismal Land.

the bit about the journo only wanting to go to BM (again) if she got paid made me really question the role of media at the event

f#ck those people is what i thought
