A long, long time ago, a much older, older colleague, Neil Muncy, was principal in an older yet episode as a technical consultant trying to recover the analog tapes erased by Rose Mary Woods. He tried fiercely but failed recovering the tape content. But he documented the erasure coverup. Who is RMW today? What lies in NSA archives? It's very sad for me to ask the question at all.

We are watching the Oliver Stone movie of the Trump presidency devolving, but we don't know the ending.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/01/us/p ... -wars.html

WASHINGTON — The Oval Office meeting this past March (2019) began, as so many had, with President Trump fuming about migrants. But this time he had a solution. As White House advisers listened astonished, he ordered them to shut down the entire 2,000-mile border with Mexico — by noon the next day.

The advisers feared the president’s edict would trap American tourists in Mexico, strand children at schools on both sides of the border and create an economic meltdown in two countries. Yet they also knew how much the president’s zeal to stop immigration had sent him lurching for solutions, one more extreme than the next.

Privately, the president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down. That’s not allowed either, they told him.

(the bizarre story continues in the article as Trump and Miller purge "deep state" actors and in the Oct 8 book the article is adapted from Border Wars: Inside Trump’s Assault on Immigration)

“No president in recent memory—and likely no president ever—has prompted more discussion about his mental stability and connection with reality. Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly is said to have described him as “unhinged,” and “off the rails,” and to have called the White House “Crazytown” because of Trump’s unbalanced state. Trump’s former deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, once reportedly discussed recruiting Cabinet members to invoke the Twenty-Fifth Amendment, the Constitution’s provision addressing presidential disability, including mental disability.“

“No one knows what to expect from him anymore,” because “his mood changes from one minute to the next based on some headline or tweet, and the next thing you know his entire schedule gets tossed out the window. He’s losing his shit.”

You mistake not condemning someone as support. I didn't vote for him, but yet I'm not going to rag on him every chance I get. Same with Obama, Bush, Clinton. You hate the guy and that's fine by me. I don't hate him or any politician. Our democracy will survive. It would have survived Hillary, and it will survive Trump. You all just seem to worry too much and let someone in Foggy Bottom ruin your life. My life would have been fine if Hillary won, and it's fine since Trump won. Most of the anguish you inflict upon yourselves is self-delusion and I just am not going to fall for that. Sure, he's a jerk, but to believe everything is negative with no positives is just as near-sighted as you seem to believe I am. It just seems to me, since they've been trying to impeach him even before he got into office, they have a verdict in search of a crime.

Doc, there is one difference when it comes to Drumpf. In my lifetime there have been some presidents that I liked policy wise and some that I didn't. But, there had never before been a president that I was ashamed of. Never a president that makes me embarrassed to be an American. This is not what I laid my life on the line to defend in battle. That's the difference, and I'm not so sure this will have a happy ending.

We will have plenty of time ongoing to discuss presidential politics!

I wish the Republicans would realize they are better off without Trump.

He's a like wounded animal who will do anything to survive and use every power to destroy any Republican who opposes him in a Senate remove vote. A wounded animal is bad for a 2020 campaign. He's been very erratic, freed from the Mueller investigation, and if reelected, will be even more so.

The Democrats are running on promises, not leadership, direction, or inspiration.

The Libertarians/Greens are ideologues who are checking out of voting meaningfully. One of our greatest in history mistakes was the Iraq war enabled by Ralph Nader voters in Florida in the 2000 election.

I think the Democrats could win on an American values, anti-corruption, government is not evil/incompetent, but should be held to zero based budgeting, customer service, and continuous improvement, campaign finance reform (which is hard with Supreme Court decisions,) fiscal responsibility, strategic long term trade policy, business-predictability not handouts, and inclusiveness over divisiveness platform. A centrist Republican could do the same but it would take a lot of walkback from current Republican ideology which plays in the primaries and current business campaign funding.

The 2020 campaign is going to very, very dirty and foreign interference is ensured by current Trump policy. One of the tactics will be to make voters so disgusted that they don't vote or vote third party.

Where Democrats could throw away the election is to limit their own campaign funding which could compare Trump videos contradicting himself and lying.

We are watching American democracy being destroyed.

(I'm a Democratic voter and even a progressive radical in many areas, but we are not asking the right questions)

here, read about crime grandpa, then get back to me about how you don’t give a shit about the institutions and laws he is destroying or ignoring daily.

Simon, for all of your criticism, you sure don't know me very well. Never once, never, did I say Obama should be impeached or run from office. In fact, I condemned in no uncertain terms Rush Limbaugh's insane statement that Obama should be stopped at all costs. Like I've admitted to in the past, I believe if the President--and that goes for all presidents--succeed, we as American succeed. I have a number of things I think Obama did right (and, with that, Trump has done wrong), starting with opening up Cuba to Western investment and tourism. The best way to beat back socialism and communism is with capitalism, and Obama saw that as a net good and Trump does not. But I'm not embarrassed by Trump. I understand where some of you may be, but c'mon, what makes our institutions of democracy great is the ability to change things every two or four years and in the meantime, we let the chips fall where they may.

And here we are, two years later... And, this president is nightmarishly awful.

He will literally go down in the history books as the worst we've ever had.

Not even I could have predicted how bad he would be.

Great job defending the indefensible, Doc.
