IT'S A LAKE! A FREAKIN' LAKE! I took a drive out today, sunny after a long rainy week. First time I've ever seen the standing water on playa, and well it's pretty impressive. It's covered as far as I could see.

Is anyone there, who needs a high place to land? and are there folks, besides me, who can accommodate?
Thank you, Ygmir, for offering your shelter to evacuees. I hope there will be enough kind folks like you for all the people in need during these storms.

Imagine if that much water dumped there during the week while we're all there!! What a mess it would be!

well, the dam seems to be holding, more info I'm sure, with daylight......
they are saying over 100K people evacuated.
I'm still standing by if anyone is in need. I know Elliot and others are, too.
Which is great, since we are on opposite sides of the danger zone, whomever is stuck on either side has options.

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
Excellent pics, Elorrum, thank you so much for posting!
Woohoo for being on the other side of the move! Well, mostly. We got the entire living space moved (and even did our walk-through/turning in of the keys early), and I'm about 3/4 of the way through moving the storage space. We hit a point last week where the garage was getting full, and made the decision to get a smaller (and less expensive) storage space down here, but then the rains came and it's been mostly cats and dogs since. It'll dry up later this week, hopefully, and I should be able to get the last of the SF storage space sorted out pretty quickly... as well as taking over some of the stuff currently in the garage that we won't use as much. I really want to have that be as usable a workshop space as possible.
The new joint has also reached a point where it feels less like a connected series of rooms full of boxes and bins and more like a place we live, and the cats warmed up to the place a lot more quickly than we expected, so that's been awesome.
What's been less than awesome is that during all this, the virtual world I've been working with over the last few months has been going through a really painful (but necessary) update process. One where at times it feels like more stuff is getting broken than fixed, and in particular it's messed things up for us. That's been eating up a huge amount of time and causing many a sleepless night (mostly because their lead developer's in Sydney haha). They're good people but it's maddening, I really hope we're able to turn a corner soon.
I've also been working on some back-end stuff for here, which I hope to be able to roll out after the directed group sale at the beginning of March. Speaking of which, woohoo our camp has been invited to participate again.
I'll hopefully be back around more in the days ahead, in the meantime it's a busy (and wet) Tuesday. Cheers!

My pottery studio has wet floors and a very wet wall as well. But can't complain as no real damage and others are suffering a hell of a lot worse. At least mine will dry out and be usable again in a few days.

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition
Sorry to hear about flooding and unwanted wetness, Lucky. We were afraid that after we'd signed the lease on the new place and the rains started, we'd get down here with the first load and there'd be leaks in the roof or some other weather-horror problem, but so far so good. We did have a gutter problem that was dumping water out directly in front of the front door, but once I got a ladder down here I was able to check it out and it was built up residue of the little pebbles from the shingles that had come off over the years. Once I brushed it out everything's been okay.
Our little place has been okay, but a friend posted a video on FB of a mini-lake forming up in their yard, and there was some bad flooding in San Jose yesterday, some people needed to be evacuated.
I'm hoping Yggy and Elliot and anyone else living up in the Sierras is okay, I saw last night that they had closed the interstate for a great big chunk due to white-outs.
Happy forms day, everybody! I think they'll start opening up around noon PST.

congrats on the new Digs Trilo and Panni!
yeah, alls fine here, I'm on a hill, so specifically I'm ok.....but wow, the roads and stuff around here are getting trashed. Slides, sink holes, trees down, road collapses, spot flooding........dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria.
Looks like we get a few days break now.

Not saying that Plan B will involve eating some of those daggone deer that have been mocking you so relentlessly...

I came in here to get a drink, whew, I FINALLY got my boss to approve my time off for the Burn this year. FINALLY.

good for the vacay approval, MDF. Nagging loose ends can be, um, nagging. Sunny here this morning, with slushy snow on the ground. The sunshine is nice before the next storm coming. Snowed all day yesterday, but not cold enough, so not much accumulation. Strange stuff, it only looks dry.
Sorry about the basement, Lucky.

Thanks, Trilo! Perfectly fine here. I'm on the west side of the Central Valley, at only 1,500 feet. And when I bought this place 14 years ago, I made danged certain of high ground. In fact, it's downhill in all directions from here.
Camp planning is progressing at full steam. We have more people again, and it's only February. But I cannot turn down folks who surely "belong" with us.
