I lost my Dad two days ago. One way we're coping is that we realize he'd lived a good life and was "ready"- raised good kids, loved his wife and cared for others in so many ways. His legacy will live on.
This Oregon thing and others like it are tragic. These young people never had a chance. Condolences to their families and anyone else who is affected.

My dog Wallace escaped from my yard yesterday and got hit by a car and didn't make it. I was able to get him to an emergency vet, but his internal injuries were too severe and he had about an hour left from when he got hit. I just wish I was able to spend that whole hour comforting him, it took almost 45 minutes from when he was hit to get him to the vet. At least my neighbors saw it happen (she tried but couldn't stop it from happening) and were able to let me know to have some time to try and save him.

He was turning 2 years old this month and was my first dog. I found him in December 2013 after he got hit by 2 cars (which I witnessed the 2nd one hit him), I took him in and got him fixed up after having a broken leg and getting a concussion. He was so happy go lucky and always wanted to go on an adventure and he had many. I had Escape Artist listed on his collar for a reason, but wish I could have built a fortress to contain him. I didn't want him to stay indoors all the time while I was at work everyday, but I might still have him if I took that route. I am trying not to beat myself up for that, he would have escaped another day as it was. He wanted to go explore.

He was my right hand guy and always waiting for me to get home. I took him out a couple times over the weekend to an outdoor concert and an arts festival, and he got to play with his best dog friend on sunday, but I was not prepared for this. I am pretty fucking devastated.

RIP Wallace. 2 years was not enough time.

omg I am so sorry rideincircles. 2 years is definetly not enough time. But know this, you gave him the best 2 years he ever had. Dogs are the coolest humans so wherever he has gone its got to be somewhere awesome and lovely. it just does...

So sad... found out that my sweet friend, Dena Lovins-Elgins, passed on the 10th, quite unexpectedly.
We met before she started working for the post office, then I was lucky enough to be on her route. She and one of her daughters were always so excited when they delivered my Burning man tickets, then upon my return, I'd get plied with questions about how the burn was.
Hard to believe I won't be seeing her again... *sigh*
