Re: The Bar 2018 Edition
Immediacy is a requirement indeed. I have masses recordings and logs about previous burns. Do not ever really read/watch/listen them, just for reference (747-Mobile-Art.gif at BIG-MOOP conversation).
Never find the time to relive any either, more fun to be busy preparing for next year.
Meth a Morphosis thing the DEA will be overly present.
Shape shifting cloaking devices as more virtually possible.

Re: The Bar 2018 Edition
Hey gang!
It's been awhile. I've had a lot of catching up to do around home since I got back from the desert. I just wanted to belatedly say that I had a great burn this year, and certainly enjoyed the opportunity to finally get to meet several of you throughout the week, and renew a number of old friendships as well. There was a playa full of art and fun times to savor, and to top it off, I had the privilege of camping alongside two of the most terrific burners imaginable.
I know that some of you couldn't make it out to the desert this year; you were missed, and hopefully next year you'll get dusty once again.
Cheers!

Happy Birthday ygmir!

Re: The Bar 2018 Edition
Well, it's happy hour in Bali. I'll just top off my rose'. Eplaya is dead today. It's a lazy time of year. Got the dust washed off? (Nope). Decom is over. Artumnal is next. I'm skipping the camping trip. Tomorrow I fly to L.A. to see the kids. Can you believe My daughter is going to be 50?! God I'm old. I scavenged all of my photo albums for her and that's a great gift. Plus I'm paying for the caterer at the halloween/birthday party. I know I'm a cool Mom and Grandma but I hate to leave my territory for so long. Gotta run. I think I'll give them some jewelry as well. It's fun giving stuff away.

This is the kind of thing where that pesky zero numbering sometimes trips me up, and I end up having to cipher it out on a scrap of paper...
...but I think yggy may only be 60
0 through year 9 = decade 1
10 through year 19 = decade 2
20 through year 29 = decade 3
30 through year 39 = decade 4
40 through year 49 = decade 5
50 through year 59 = decade 6
60th birthday = start of decade 7
(then again, I might be mistaken, afterall, I do arts not maths)
and there is always this..

Whew! That was 4 hours well spent. I got my after Halloween shopping done. Think I'll pour a wine. Anybody else? Our event at the next burn will be hats. I got fedoras, top hats and felt sombreros today. All for a quarter each. I go after each holiday. I must have several hundred by now. I'll bring a hundred neckties sewed down into hatbands. There are choices for chinstraps and non-moopy decor. This will be a good one. Mmmm. This wine is good one too. Later taters.

Re: The Bar 2018 Edition
Hi All,
Been a while. Good to see a few very friendly faces. Better than half way to 87 and really beginning to feel it. Have really ambitious thoughts of late night parties, long hikes, bike riding, tennis the Burn and so much more, now all in my rear view mirror. Happily, the mind is still sharp and I run our little medical supply business with my dear wife and that keeps me on my mental toes. ( just invented a new metaphor) Anyway, I can't really complain, I see the sunrise each day. My kids come by with wonderful regularity and by and large am in pretty good shape for a guy my age. Still go up to the Hot Springs with my lady friend and I still can go to restaurants or see an opera from time to time. So life is good. Victor Frankel described the meaning of life as what is going on in this moment and that is my religion. On the other hand, Phillip Roth near the end of his life described it as "the meaning of life is that it ends" I really prefer Frankel's view and that of Woody Allen who said, "I don't fear dying, I just don't like the hours"
So the bottom line is, CARPE DIEM, kiddies. Eat Drink and live a good life!

Hey Marty! Great to hear from you. Here, have a sip off my flask. If I go to that volunteer xmas party I'll be on your arm. I know what you mean about seeing things in the rearview. I've given up some but picked up others. Luckily, life goes on.

HI Marty! Good to seeya Pal!
Yeah, you're doing damn good, and good for you! It's always a treat to see you!
And yeah, "rear view mirror".....indeed. I know it's all relative, and we all have our levels, but it is getting real...
I was reflecting the other day, on my first times here in "The Bar"......wow, what a place. Full of snarky crusty "old timers"....but most were jewels, once you broke through the crust. A few folks really reached out and helped me learn "the ropes" of the place, and characters. Some have become long time friends, whom I cherish. Some, have faded away....such is life, I guess.
And, folks have shown up , come and gone, along the way here. I hold many of these relationships as my closest and dearest.
dag....philosophy at 6:30 am on a Saturday.....when it should be cartoons!

Re: The Bar 2018 Edition
Hi Marty, good to see you stopping by the bar! I'm glad to hear that you're remaining active, though like most of us who are beginning to advance in years to one degree or another, we have to gradually set aside things we were once easily able to do in our more youthful days. Stings a bit, but a good reminder to seize the day in front of us.
It's a beautiful autumn day outside today, I think I'll do just that.
Cheers!
