Now I'll never get back to my camp !!

Post by Karma » Mon May 30, 2005 11:56 pm

So the man will be able to rotate on the top of it's base at the whim of anyone willing to climb up there and move him.
This is gonna be a bit of a hinderance to my ability to tell where I am and where my camp is in the wee hours of the morning.

Maybe I'll just bring GPS this year.

Unless, of course, by "Camp" you actually mean "intersection where I will pass out tonight in a pool of my own vomit." That should be pretty easy to find.

That's why it's so important to leave one person in camp at all times, to shout, "POLO!!!!!".

Our variation last year was "UBER"...."CARNEY"

Not very effective, really.
It's going to be alright.

We had a version as well. I was seen shouting all over BRC "HAIRY".....

My campmate trying to help me return home would answer very loudly "VAGINA".....

It would have worked better though if one of us was back at camp but holding eachother up late at night it was comforting to know someone familiar was in shouting distance.

If you can't get back, was it ever really your camp?

You may be interested to know that the street names for this year have been released. The alphabetical structure of their nomenclature should help in giving directions. There was also an ordered logic to the names of the streets during the Floating World, but how many of us really know where a Mainmast is in relation to a Foc'sle?

I love the alphabetical idea - easier on the memory, can be shortened to the letter rather than having to remember the street name (shoulda done this years ago!!), even kids can catch on... And somehow, having Amnesia next to the Esplanade, and the city surrounded by Hysteria, just seems too... um... appropriate!

Someday they may get rid of the name thing and go just to letters... OK, not as cutesy, but in a big city it makes more sense to have stable names than change them to match the "theme du an"... and most cities have a similar arrangement. After all, they don't change the names of the radials, do they??

(Edited to correct typing errors and stuff - too darn early!!)

I think that the constancy of the radials and the changing of the streets is fine. I can tell the diffent emotional states of catharsis and delirium apart better than I can pull apart C and D. And we have to relearn the city anyway. Dispatching may be hell, I've been on calls where we just don't know where we're going.

Plus, this year I will run willy-nilly around the city, exchanging street signs and swapping some out for new ones. Anything to help the newbie enjoy his experience that much more....

I can only imagine how it's gonna be (and I volunteered to do WHAT!!??!!), tho being alphabitized like this it shouldn't be too bad... Tho I can imagine...

(Call coming into ESD) The location is Camp (unintelligible garble) at 1:15 and Saturn,, er, Foc's'le, er, Id? Yiiii!!
