That does sound very fucking high.
Maybe shop around more?
I would avoid most dealers when possible.

Hahaha yep. That was one of the first things I asked the dealership,
"How well will this Handel in the desert" then I had to explain why I asked lol.

Wow your not out there this year to? Quite a few burners I know couldn't make it this year. That sucks :(

I will be watching the burn from home Saturday night. Wave to me! :)

Fuckin sorry about your problem, I'm no Mr Goodwrench either. But when you say "dealer" I'm guessing you mean the car dealer you bought the truck from. (Dodge, Ford, GM, Toyota etc) Why not take it to a reputable independent mechanic in your town? Might save a few $100. Just an example, a 60,000 mile (check up) for my 2011 Chevrolet Impala from the dealer is $1100. From a reputable mechanic I've dealt with it's $700.

My "checkups" pretty much consist of my husband reading the codes that keep the "check engine" light lit up to ensure it's still just a solonoid in some thingamajigg that by all accounts doesn't really matter much but would cost a couple of weeks' salary to fix.

I have new brake drums and pads sitting on top of my freezer, doing a heckuva good job at stopping me from getting a bowl of icecream. Labour being free, they'll have cost me about $120 all said and done.

Oooh. And I visited a drivethru muffler joint with one of my vehicles last week. For less than it would have cost me in parts, I had my muffler changed in less than an hour! I'm fucking smitten with this place. Who knew!

Yes, I drive clunkers. Fortunately I fly to the vicinity of BRC and hop into something more reliable out there.

Chair's down. I hope I can get it fixed tomorrow. Otherwise, it's Tuesday... I hope I do not have to sit in the chair that needs to be reupholstered all weekend, and beyond.

As i sit watching the webcast, in the house I'm being evicted from, by the man who fired me, the one formerly known as my father, upon the murder of my sister, and me defending her will against his attempts to overturn it... all I can think is FUCK.

I wanted to be there, to see what it was like. I had a ticket, I had transportation, I had tents and lights, and a camp... But yeah, when you need to sell your ticket to protect your niece from an abusive asshole, and a big thanks to the guy who bought a pre-sale ticket full price and sent the check as quickly as possible before he even got the ticket, you can't help but say it.

FUCK

There will be other burns. I'll have another chance. I'll head out to my first burn when I'm 30, or 35, or 40, instead of in my twenties, and I'll still meet great people and have a great time, but I won't be able to leave a picture of my sister in the temple this year, I won't get to go and pretend everything is okay for a week, I won't be able to be lost in the wonder and majesty that was this years burn.

Here's to failing hard at making it. Heres to picking yourself up, and heres a FUCK you to anyone who stands in my way next year.

That is certainly one . huge . fuck.

But I sure wouldn't call that failing hard. I'd call that doing what needs to be done.

Burning Man is just, well, Burning Man. Would have been fun, likely, but as one Burner puts it,
theCryptofishist wrote:"It's just a camping trip in the desert, not the redemption of the fallen world."

All I can add is keep on truck'n. It sounds like you're doing it right.

p.s.
There's bound to be someone willing to take photo of your sister to the temple for you. Then later, whenever you go, you can do the same again.

Agreed, one big FUCK!
Doing that thing that is in front of you that needs to be done--well that's decency. And "decency" might not sound like much, but it is one of the creators of a better world. And even if we say that that's only a better world for your niece, that's still a small pebble on a great beach of decency.

And the metaphor ran away with me, because you can't build a real wall out of fucking pebbles.

But anyway, keeping faith with your loved ones, dead and living, is one of the most important things you can do. And it's going to lead to more, and more lasting, happiness than a week in the desert.
And I hope that you camp with or near people who appreciate your decency.

(And that quote is merely an expansion/variant of an older expression on this board.)

well, fuck, I wrote this in the dust..........for me, maybe MGB? and any others, just change the names, to fit:

For dear Clyde:

we saw the ad
and made the call

My little girl and I

"A puppy, poppa!!" she did exclaim
"oh poppa, can we see?"

"of course we can"
is what I said
"This puppy we shall meet"

trepidations, though I had..

"A rescue, but oh so sweet".

We drove the drive
Walked in the door

excitement, mixed with fear:
would he be good, would he be bad?
This puppy of one year.

The cage did yeild
you shyly steeped
out of your "metal house"

your tail did fold
you shivered so
**abuses you had known**

but then you met
our hands, and scent,
and hoping there was love,
your tail did wag
a little lick.............
"oh poppa, can he come home?"

"of course my sweet"
Is all I'd say...
and hugs and cuddles poured.

The days turned months,
and months to years

The trust and love were full

I miss you Pal, I miss you Pet.

My heart for now, is dull.

I can't fucking let go of the scene of holding him, his eyes looking into mine, getting "the shot" and looking at me as if to ask "what's happening to me", "we are pack, what is happening?"..........and all I could do was hold and pet and talk to him in a soothing voice, using the little names of affection I've used in praise and love for him...........and see his eyes go dull...................it's fucking haunting me...........

Ygmir, I worked for a veterinarian and sometimes held the pet while they were put to sleep. As hard as it is, believe me, letting them suffer is harder. I've seen dogs go for months suffering, because the family couldn't let them go. I had to help draw quarts of fluid from their abdomen with a huge needle every few days, force feed them, shave them when their skin breaks down, etc. Clyde knows you did what you had to do out of love. Think of his eyes going dull so the pain would leave and his spirit could run free and shine bright in the heavens. Hugs and love.

You just made me cry. I totally get it. My teddy is my life. He is like a child to me as I have none. I'm not as strong as you to be able to go threw what you went threw. I would be a walking mess for weeks. Seeing his eyes in that photo, I could only imagine. I so so so so sorry for your loss. Im Sure the pain is unbarrable.

I wish I could give you a hug right now.

Fuck. I'm in pain. 7 or 8, probably. I want to cry from it. My fucking chair broke on Friday and I used my back up on Wednesday and I think the padding is fucked up, because it jsut feels horrible. I just emailed into work. And I got out of at midnight--insommnia, my old friend, and pulled most of the padding off the offending chair. I'm not going to take it to Jesus, but I think I have a plan--I need to find a new cushion.
And I'm not lucid dammit!

And I'm alone.

OOPS! Fuck!
I shouldve added that the independent mechanic that I took my truck to last year before leaving for BM who supposedly fixed the driver's side axle seal charged me $500 for ONE side and it was leaking again in one year!
So, thats why the Toy dealer got the job instead and hopefully it will last me longer then one year!

It's not easy I will tell you that to be a few months shy of 30 and deciding what you have wanted to do sense the age of 12 and went to college for and were good at, wasn't the right path.... I mean shit! Fuck me!

Right now it's more about keeping the house afloat and paying off some debt so we can buy a house in the next 24 months, but once we get afloat, I'm going to switch paths most likely into helping troubled (mental/behavoral/home environment ) youth. I was one way back in the day and these people helped me. I know what good things can come of these people if done right.
