Timing Buying Campgear & Supplies re: Tariffs

We have a 15% tariff on about 40% of China to US imports, mainly wholesale. That goes to 25% on products entering the country after June 1.

The president has instructed Lighthizer to prepare to tariff almost all remaining imports from China at an unknown percentage.

The tariffs collected go to the Treasury - they are a tax. They are paid for by the end consumer.

The threat to continue this could be a negotiating tactic. But the discussion is that it is a campaign tactic to portray the president as "tough on trade" in comparison to challengers in the 2020 election. The government needs the money in relation to the deficit, but it isn't a "tax" that his supporters reflexively oppose. Therefore these tariffs could be with us until January 2021.
