WALKING QUAD NEEDS D.M.V. HELP!!!!

I am an ambulatory quadrapalegic of c-5 and c-7 level. I broke my neck in two places diving into Stinson Beach trying to rescue a buddy who had flipped over in the surf in his kayak!
I have created a art cart that flies a parachute over the top of it. I was allowed to bring and use it last year! It realy hellped me out!! However I was warned that It looked to much like a golf cart!! I just thought that the D.M.V. hottie didn't like my paint Job!! ( 3 tone dayglo ) Little did I know that they were going to use this as grounds for denying my request for an on playa inspection this year!!!! As Soon as I found out about the denial and why, all my friends got together and Mutated the cart into a giant santa sleigh in four days!! I re submitted my request for an on playa inspection and am waiting for a reply! It is now 10 days before I am playa bound and I am realy nervouse about getting this thing in!!! I would have applied for a handycap permit but they require a california handicap plaquard!! While I quallify for one, I do not apply for one because I belive those should be for people in wheel chairs!! I am not in a wheel chair!!
My questions are What is my recourse if I am denied again!!
Who can I write to about this!!
I don't want to piss anybody off especially the D.M.V But I need to get this thing in!! Just because I choose to not have a handicapped plaquard does not mean that I am not dissabled and in need of mobillity assistance at Blackrock City!!!

You need to contact Odwally who is probably now on the playa where access to internet service is dicey at best. It would appear that you indeed waited well beyond the cut off point for registration the date of which has been posted for well over six months and this late in the game it seems like you might have a tough time getting resolution around your cart getting permitted. Though I can't (and don't) speak for Od or the DMV you need to know that current policy MANDATES that if you come to the event claiming a physical challenge that you need to provide a state issued form (and placard) indicating your status as being physically challenged. BRC DMV is not required to issue you a mutant vehicle license for your cart but there will be no problems with you getting around Black Rock City in your regular vehicle PROVIDED you have the appropriate placard and state issued paperwork along with driving under the stipulations outlined by the BRC DMV. You should be able to contact the crew at [email protected]. Also be aware that if you don't have the necessary pre-approval paperwork for your cart that you will be directed to park it in the long term parking area set up near the gate entrance.

yeah, i'm a gimp too (advanced arthritis in both knees) and have a painful time walking. i brought a scooter and went to the dmv in brc with my placard and cal dmv printout. they gave me a handicap sticker for my scooter. seemslike they'd let you slide if you have something from your doctor tho...

The standards are a LOT stricter this year - we're looking for placards and forms together, and matching them up with ID, after a couple of situations last year where the same placard came in to get three or four different people licensed. (I'm not saying you were one of those people, just that it happened.)

Note that we are accepting temporary placards - but we need the paperwork from the Reality Camp DMV, not just a doctor's note.

no, it wasnt me...i hate seeing people take advantage like that. geeze. i seriously have bad knees. my doc recommends total replacement of them both-this year! i'm only 42 :(

but this year i'm just bringing my bike, and extra pain meds, plus i found a great topical pain reliever called biofreeze.

You have my sympathies - and empathy: I'm 35 and overweight; I fully expect I'll need at least one replacement of my own in the next ten years.

Well I broke down and applied for a temperary disabled placard and my doctor said that he couldn't believe that I did not have one allready!! He then filled out the form for a permanent placard on the spot!! I went to the reality D.M.V. And recieved my placard!! So now I can bring my Santa Sleigh!!
