People Seeking Camps 2022

Post by trilobyte » Wed Mar 30, 2022 12:19 pm

For those who are new to the community and not sure how to proceed, I strongly suggest that you take the initiative and try to find your own camp. We all understand that getting to Burning Man, especially in that very first year, can be really hard. When you read about Burning Man and the Ten Principles, one of them is radical self reliance. Sure, there are lots of ways to read or interpret that, but in a nutshell you will call upon yourself to figure out a lot of ridiculous stuff ("the rainbow tutu, or the bee costume?") and do more than you might have ever thought you could. You might have already hit that milestone - but out of all the crazy stuff you have to figure out for Burning Man, figuring out your camp isn't that hard. You have three basic options:
  1. You can camp by yourself! You all by yourself, or you and your group of however many friends, can go camping and survive and have a great Burning Man experience. Thousands of burners do just that every year, and they have an amazing burn.
  2. You can start your own camp! It doesn't have to be a theme camp, or your theme could be any shared interest ("Naked Margarita Camp" is just one of a billion ideas to choose from). Sure, some camps work all year to build their stuff, but you can come up with an idea in no time and invite other like-minded people to join you.
  3. You can join somebody else's camp! The best reason to join another camp is because 'holy crap they sound awesome and I want to be a part of that!' but you may also have reservations about doing #1 or #2. If it's your first time out there, one of the best ways to learn about doing things is to join another camp and get involved and learn from them...or any number of other totally valid reasons. So don't feel bad about having a strong desire to be part of a larger group.
If you're looking at joining a camp, there are two main ways to go about it. The radically self reliant approach would be to take a look at the camps out there and find something that resonates with you, and then reach out to that group. You're going to find information about camps in two main places. First is the message board you're on right now... ePlaya. Early in the season the pickings may seem pretty slim, but as camps start to figure out what they're planning for 2022 they'll start posting about it. Look through the threads, and if something jumps out at you as cool, exciting, or fun... then post a reply. Or better yet, click on the PM button next to the thread starter's message to send them a private message. At this late stage of the game, many camps and camp leaders aren't checking the boards that regularly, so sending a private message to express your interest sends them a notification, an typically gets a faster response. The other place to find a list of camps is the partial list of 2019 theme camps. It has a list of all the camps who filled out placement questionnaires and chose to make their information public. Holy crap, that list is huge, and it's exhaustive to read it all, but it's also a lot of fun to see what people build and bring to Burning Man. Sometime in May/June a similar list will likely be posted for the 2022 event, but last year's list can be a good place to start. Find something interesting, then fire up an internet search engine and find that camp. Many have web sites or Facebook pages or some kind of internet presence. If you don't see something, they may have either disbanded (it has been a couple years now), or they're not recruiting for new members anyways - but if you can find them you can reach out to ask. Tell them how you discovered them, and why you're interested and ask if they're planning to return in 2022 and would be willing to consider having you join. Speaking personally as a person who organizes a camp, a camp leader is more likely to be moved by someone with a genuine interest rather than a generic post.

Failing the above, yeah you can post a 'Seeking Camp' post, but to some it suggest that you may be lacking in initiative or radical self reliance... which is probably not your intention. It is understandable though - you may be new, or your plans may have fallen through, or it all just seems too overwhelming. Take a moment, maybe even two, a couple deep breaths, and go. You can do this.

Mod Note: anyone feeling the need to post their own plea in hopes of a camp seeking them out and adopting them... should post it here. Camps that would like to respond to posters in this board should do so by using the private message or email button under the poster's name - don't post camp adverts or responses here as they will be removed.

2 Cool Cats looking for camp

Post by rappy7 » Wed Mar 30, 2022 3:53 pm

Hi folks. A longtime burner (me) and a newbie friend of mine are looking for a cool camp! Something that involves an element of performance would be neat.

The wrinkle is we totally struck out on tickets, so hopefully you have some extras from the Steward Sale.

This is your sign that we're super cool and should be in your camp!

Please send me a private message if you have openings. Thanks.

Welcome! Best of luck to you! Arriving Thursday? You are going to be missing some big contributing time, I think. Ten? You are a camp!

Theme camps that accept virgin burners?

Post by ofdustandgold » Sat Apr 09, 2022 1:29 pm

Oh hi there! I’m not sure if this is the appropriate place for this question: but I was wondering if anyone had any insight about theme camps that are accepting new camp members/accept virgin burners? I have done a decent amount of research and reaching out, but it seems like a lot of camps are not currently accepting newbies. It will be my fourth burn and my friend’s first (we are both highly enthusiastic and hard-working ladies and both already have tickets), and we are hoping to join a kickass crew to co-create with and contribute to! Any input would be much appreciated 🙂

Burner Pilot Seeks Theme Camp

Post by coastalflyer » Sat Apr 16, 2022 4:08 pm

13-time burner and BRC airport volunteer looking for a theme camp. I've gifted scenic flights to dozens of burners over the years and helped out at the airport. Could offer a flight in to one or two camp mates from Truckee airport (45 minute flight) and can also make a mid-week trip back to get supplies or fresh produce.

Hello lovely people!
We are 2 multilingual burners who would like to find a camp to be a part of, to contribute to, and to spread amazing energy with this year. Where can I find a site/listing of the 2022 theme camp names? A brief description would be awesome too. (Any info really. I already checked out the Camp Listings Archive)
Thanks in advance :D

Twisted Swan Pub Seeks Geeky Campers.

Post by Sporkster » Fri May 13, 2022 6:12 pm

The Twisted Swan Celtic Pub and Temple of Baccus, a long-established camp, has space for a couple of geeky folks.

We provide libations (historically within the 8:15/E area ) for BRC. We also host geeky/costume theme nights, and tabletop gaming has been known to break out.

If you are looking for a Ren Faire vibe, D&D nerds, the island of misfit toys, or just a laid-back place to set up camp, we may be looking for you, too!

Our modest camp dues are used to support the camp's offering to BRC (libations, grey water for sanitation, etc), and we offer a meal-sharing plan with our host village, Poly Paradise.

Hi BM family,

We are a couple from the UK seeking a camp to take us under their wing!

We don't drink alcohol but aren't averse to it. (Looking for a camp that's not TOTALLY wild :P )

We love to live consciously.

We hold Cacao ceremonies here in England and would be more than happy to contribute this to the space.

We are virgin burners looking for some like minded souls to make this experience super special.

Beaming love

handy guy looking for a camp

Post by decatrip90 » Sat May 21, 2022 2:46 pm

Hi there!

My name is Simon and I am going to Burning Man for the first time! and as you can imagine, I am beyond excited as everyone else attending this year!. As a new burner and coming from outside of the US, I am searching for a camp that can take me under their wing and let me be part of a great community. I am reaching out to see if there is someone out there who can lead me to a camp, can lead me to someone or can give me tips to find a place. I will be grateful!

Let me first introduce more about myself; I am 32 years old coming from Milan, Italy. I am currently living in Amsterdam working as an assembler mechanic, but I have been traveling the world for the last years, spending most of my time in Australia and New Zealand, where I worked in different jobs, some of them picking fruit alongside great people from all over the world, where we created a close community.

I am a handy person full of energy ready to help in what can be needed at the camp, I have a license in welding, I am good at building, and I really enjoy to cook. So, I am yours to help in what is needed.

Thank you for all and I hope to see you at the Playa!

Simon.

Fourth trip home. Seeking a new experience. Self-sufficient but I like to contribute and help out. Seeking a camp to be a part of and make new friends. Well known in the Minnesota community and come with references.

Hello!!
My name is Alicia, please call me Lishy. I wasn't planning on attending but you know plans can change. This will be my first year attending and a friend recommended finding a camp to be a part of otherwise I really would just rough it. 😅 .
Background: I live in Oregon and has been here since 2014 [before that I lived in ABQ, NM]. I'm finishing up a BSc in Marine Biology and just spent my spring on the southern coastal parts of OR doing research on things. My many hobbies are , I love being out in nature: kayaking, hiking, camping, swimming, running, snowboarding, moutain biking among others. Personally, I'm an amateur photographer mostly inspired by nature. I juggle and do double staff for fun.

I will heed the advise of my friend and will continue to look for a camp to be a part of. If you believe I'll fit in your please please send me a message!!!

Thank you!!! 😊

First-Timer seeking camp

Post by arash6586 » Tue Jul 05, 2022 8:31 am

Hello Burning Man Fam,

I'm a First-timer Burner 36 years old Canadian guy flying from Vancouver BC to San Francisco , then taking the shuttle Bus to Black Rock City. I have been living in Canada over the past 15 years and it's the first time I am having the chance to join the Burning Man community.

As for my life, I'm very passionate about fitness, backcountry camping and travel. Currently I work as Fashion Photographer and Fitness trainer in Vancouver . During my spare time, I spend lots of time exploring the nature doing backcountry camping/hiking in remote locations ,participating music remote events , socializing with friends at the beach, cooking etc.

It has been always a dream for me to be part of Burners fam and participate in a down to earth community .
I would love to have the chance to be part of a camp, I can contribute strength/ body weight training sessions , as well as cooking for the team to keep everyone in great shape physically and mentally during our stay at the camp. I'm super chill, socializing and responsible person. I have my own ticket .

Hope I can hear from you and Please let me know for any questions you might have.

Hi all, Nice to meet you🦄

We are 3 friends who will be attending this year's BM, and we are looking for a camp we can call home. All of us already have tickets.

A little bit about ourselves-
We are 3 good friends from Tel Aviv, Israel; 35 years old.

Two of us have been active members of the Midburn community since 2016 (Israeli burn) and attended the 2017 BM.

We are very diverse, one of us is a chef, one is a bartender and one works in Hi-tech.

We love to party, chill near the fireplace and explore new adventures, very open and friendly people :)

We can help in the kitchen of the camp, the bar or anything else.

Looking forward to hearing back from you and chatting!

Any questions you might have for us - feel free.

Aloha Playa Familia!!!

My sister, Peep, and I are in need of a Burn Ohana (family) for this year as it’s my first year and her second. We are magical beings who live on Maui, Hawaii - feeling super called to bring our hearts, gifts, laughter and sexy dance moves to contribute.

We carry high vibe, sparkly energy and are manifesting safe, homey vibes, tight community, creativity, a kitchen, shade and water in our camp. A little more about ourselves…

My name is Elfina, I’m a tree elf who is obsessed with astrology and teach others how to align with their soul’s blueprint. I’m also an intuitive tarot reader, artist, avid dancer and flow artist. I’m super silly and self-expressive and excited to share my gifts as a burner virgin.

My sissy, Peep, is a quirky alien who is super passionate about making and spinning music as she DJs events on the island. She also loves to create clothing, cook delicious plant-based food and is also a devoted dancer.

The two of us are super easy going, up for adventure, positive and very respectful of our community and surroundings. We are here to pitch in contribute in any way needed!! We can offer DJing, performing, tarot readings, astrology readings, Jagua tattooing, clothing mending, cooking/baking, free-styling and lots of laughter (or anything else that is needed).

We love to entertain, to connect in meaningful ways, to hold space for anyone who may need it and to indulge in all the yumminess the Playa has to offer.

Would LOVE to join your Mystical Tribe 🫶

Please reach out if you have space for two more. Can’t wait to connect.

You are asking for water to be manifested for you? Essential for survival? Items promised by camps do fall through, so do bring water. Read the survival guide. Consider the ten principles. Best of luck.

2 crafty new yorkers seeking camp

Post by saturdaymatinee » Fri Aug 12, 2022 1:19 pm

Good Day!

A friend and I 29f/42m are looking for a camp to join this year. We are a bit late in the game of course, so we're open to anyone who may like to have us.

I am a project manager and he is a key grip. We're both incredibly organized, tactically skilled, creative, energetic, friendly, and full of stories. We're particularly interested in camps that are production-related (music or otherwise) or those serving food and drink, but open to all! We can contribute to the camp by pitching in funds and taking shifts.
We are ready to leave New York and we have all of our camping supplies ready for us in Sacramento, where we'll drive to BRC from.

Hi Burners!

Wow, what a great community to be apart of! Thank you, @TriloByte, for starting this thread!

My Wife (Eleonora) and I (37 & 38 yrs burner virgins) were just GIFTED tickets from our friends from Italy (Burners). They can’t go, and we had been trying to score tickets… They said, “ You are the perfect people that would need to experience this amazing gathering!”😍

We know it’s a bit late in the game, so we are start here in a search for a camp😁. We are looking to bring our own Camper/RV, but we are also open to other types of living options.

Our interests are around : Wellness, entrepreneurship, creative activities, music , and meeting people around the world to share cultures and ideas.

A bit about us:

We both are very friendly, open, and creative people. We currently live in San Diego, CA. However, Eleonora is from Italy, and I am originally from San Diego with Mexican background. We have lived in Madrid, New York, and Miami. We are a couple with good energy, full of stories, passion for music, love for helping people, love cooking, and we keep a place clean and organized. We are genuinely looking forward to sharing stories and learning new things from people around the world.

We are both entrepreneurs. Omar is funny, generous, a fantastic handyman 👨‍🔧😍, and cooks terrific( He enjoys preparing food for people). Eleonora is genuinely curious, super friendly, a good listener, great organizer, and loves cooking as well.

Thank you so much everybody! Looking forward to see you en LA PLAYA!

It’s getting real close to go time. Here’s a little more to think about. Open camping is awesome for your first year. No shift responsibilities, no dues. Come and go as you please. Neighbors are plentiful and friendship opportunities abound! You might like a bit more elbow room than being shoehorned into a placed camp’s boundaries. Don’t feel you absolutely need a camp, or worry about it if you don’t find one so late with little time left to prep. It’s nice to be able to have space to retreat to a bit farther from the middle, where it’s a little bit quieter. (No, it’s not quiet anywhere, not really, but it’s a little bit less densely populated out higher in the alphabet.)

Hello Beautiful Souls: I have been given the opportunity to attend the Burn again this year and I cannot wait to share and spread bliss all week! I am have been 2 times before, and always "free Camped" but this year am feeling the long call to seek and share on the playa with my community! (late notice i know but... )

I am a Ayurvedic wellness practitioner based in Costa Rica and have big heart and would love to share with like minded blissful creatures. I am very creative, outgoing, passionate and my medicines are DANCE, yoga, movement, meditation, biking, and anything doing with water. I have attended ISTA L 1 &2 and would be BLISSED out to be with others whom have a similar "religion" I speak Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and English and also work as an active travel guide all over the world....

On the playa I will be offering reiki healing sessions, as well as sound baths, Chinese cup massage, Ayurvedic consolations, hair wraps and last but NOT least TWERKING lessons :D

My intention this year is to let go of all that is holding me back and finally really step in to my full worth. I am a loving person, full of good energy and look forward to mirroring and sharing with all of the other blissful beings at burning man this year!

I am arriving from the rain forest of costa rica full of love light and abundance to share. I will be arriving to the playa early on the 29th and leaving on the 4th.

If you feel called to reach out please don't hesitate. I feel so full of gratitude and trust that this request will find itself in the proper giving loving hands

I am on social media as @blissfultraveler and @wholebodyhealth

I know this is crazy last minute. But I just secured a ticket. I feel like I am meant to attend. I will camp on my own in the free camping, but if it's possible to join a camp, it would be my preference. I am willing to put in work, help with whatever, pitch in. This is my first burn, and am a total orphan. I've shown up to music festivals alone in the past, but those are obviously smaller and more controlled events. I have camping basics, can bring my own food, gallons of water, etc. Just looking to connect. thank you!

Coming from LA area, would love to ride with someone. Can offer a ride, or gladly join your vehicle. Have a VP or can sell it.
