If you’re a new burner and you’re not sure what to do, what to expect, how you’re going to feed yourself for a week, how you’re going to navigate the city, how you’re going to meet people, how you’re going to contribute to a participant driven culture, or anything else, then you’ve come to the right place.

Black Rock Center for Unlearning is a 15 year veteran camp of Burning Man. We are specifically designed to welcome and acculturate new burners. While we run a 24 hour bar for the citizens of Black Rock City, our primary back of house purpose is welcoming and acculturating* new burners. We make Burning Man more accessible to new folks, folks traveling internationally or long distances, and those receiving low income tickets**.

At BRCU, you have room to be yourself. We don’t screen for “fit” because we have found that self-selection and chaos make for more magic than careful curation ever could. We welcome everyone regardless of skin color, ethnicity, sex, sexuality or gender. Or anything else Ron DeSantis is pissed about. Even if you don’t get the Ron DeSantis joke*** or you don’t think it’s funny, you’re welcome here. Because we are all capable of demonstrating respect for the autonomy of others, even you. You can be a sharing circle person or an asshole, quiet or loud, the salt of the earth or extra as shit.

We are focused on building community, encouraging participation and volunteering balanced with self-care and self-driven fun. How do we do that? We pool our resources - including money, time, effort, and expertise - to organize a shared meal plan****, bulk water delivery, private porta-potties cleaned and pumped daily, a pretty chill camp shower, and the only true 24/7 bar on playa.

In addition to having food, water and clean, easily accessible potties, it’s really nice to have a super fun place to call home. With a 24/7 bar, there’s always something happening and someone to greet you when you get home. If you need a rest day, you can hang out and let Burning Man come to you.

I could talk to you about this all day long, but I’ve found we’re all a little less focused post-covid, so I’ll leave it at that. You can find us on Facebook, but we’re making the move to discord, so it’s probably best to start there: https://discord.gg/7w6NmAS8

I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. While we don’t screen for fit- and that’s integral to the magic of our oddball campily- I recognize that we’re not for everyone and you might want to screen us. And that’s cool. I’ll do my best.

*We practice and embody all of the ten principles to varying degrees and we provide active and proactive acculturation around consent specifically. We have a zero tolerance policy for non-consensual touch. We are further committed to anti-racism and are admittedly much greener on that front. We are always open to criticism, constructive or otherwise, in furtherance of those principals.
**Our tiered dues structure, ranging from $300-$700 per person allows us to include reduced dues of $175 for burners receiving low income tickets.
***This used to be a Ted Cruz joke.
****This year’s meal plan is pictured. We eat well and we accommodate all dietary restrictions and food allergies.

I was stoked to get in touch... but... maybe I suck... your discord link didn't work for me. I did send a request to join your FB group.

Interested in your camp. The Discord link is invalid, and I do not utilize Facebook.
