In the heart of the Black Rock Desert in Northern Nevada, where the annual Burning Man event unfolds, a heartwarming initiative has emerged to bring joy and education to the lives of Native American children at the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation.
The Intertribal Council of Nevada (ITCN) is teaming up with the Native Solidarity Project to give tribal Head Start, a program that helps young kids learn and grow, a big boost. They're asking folks from the Burning Man community to donate educational toys and books on their way to the event, which will make a huge difference for local native kids at Pyramid Lake.
For those attending Burning Man, convenient Toy Drive Drop Off Locations have been established along the way to facilitate donations. These locations include Wadsworth Head Start, Nixon Head Start, PLPT Food Distribution Warehouse, as well as both Tribal Stores in Nixon and Wadsworth.
Your generous toy donations reflect the Burning Man Principles of Radical Inclusion, Communal Effort, Civic Responsibility and Gifting. The donated items will be distributed to the appropriate tribal schools based on age and need, ensuring that each child receives resources tailored to their educational journey.
Head Start plays a vital role in shaping the future of Native American children, fostering their development and equipping them with the skills they need to excel in school and beyond. The ITCN program operates eleven Head Start classrooms across Nevada specifically designed for Native American children, nurturing their growth and potential.
For questions or guidance on the types of educational toys and books sought, participants are encouraged to contact Margaret Gunshows from ITCN Head Start at +1 (775) 530-5518 or via email at [email protected].
Additionally, online orders of educational toys and books can be mailed directly to Margaret Gunshows at the Intertribal Council of Nevada's address: PO Box 7440, Reno, NV 89510.
The Native Solidarity Project extends its gratitude to those who support this initiative and invites individuals to get involved. Volunteers are needed to help raise awareness and recruit drivers to assist in transporting donated items from California to Nevada. To help out, email us at [email protected]
