Where is the PNP Thread?
Where is the PNP Thread?
After last year's Burn there was a robust discussion going on in this forum about the PNP issue, which I followed with interest. There was some discussion about making a point of visiting such camps this year, to engage them and demonstrate a commitment to the 10 principles.
I don't see any related threads this year, although they might be here somewhere. I have identified at least one camp that seems like a PNP. They may be very nice group with a lot to offer to the community - I know we can offer a lot back to them as well. I'd like to stop by and check it out.
Should we publicly identify the ones that seem to have the hallmarks?

Re: Where is the PNP Thread?
There are plenty of threads on the subject. Not sure if we need another.

Search your own threads. (You have 4 postings) One of them is the thread you are looking for. Personally I wouldn't spend precious playa time on those loosers. Only do fun things at the burn. It's a vacation.

Re: Where is the PNP Thread?
I didn't see any threads for this year, and it's probably because of Ratty's point.
However, I thought if it's a festering issue that could be diluting the uniqueness of the BM experience, that people should be paying attention.
More to the point, encouraging them to respect the event and the 10 principles by interacting in a positive way.
"Only do fun things at the burn" - exactly - I love to interact with different kinds of people and that could be fun. I am not negative or derogatory, I am upbeat and good natured, and socialize with people from all walks of life in the default world.

are they losers only because they are in PNP camps.?. have you met them and they where total jerks to you.?. pass judgement on what you know, not what you think you know...and using a past experience to judge the future is unfair. wait till after the burn to call them losers.

Oh, trust me, people are paying attention. But there's not much we can do besides talk ad nauseam about it. We won't know if the policies implemented by the Org last year will be effective until this burn -- which is in a month. Expect discussion to ramp back up in September -- Good or bad.soona wrote:However, I thought if it's a festering issue that could be diluting the uniqueness of the BM experience, that people should be paying attention.

Well, unless they are walled by trash fence. Then leave them alone. They are walled for a reason.FIGJAM wrote:Troll the backstreets and be on the lookout for "walled" communities.

Re: Where is the PNP Thread?
We complained long and loud enough that the Bmorg is looking at the issue.... now.
If you love where you take a vacation and don't want it ruined, defend it now.
If you foresee there being an issue in September, maybe there is something that can head that off now.
Listing "offending" camps here will get you banned. Eplaya is not for attacking PnPs. It's for trolling the "we" complaining about PnPs.

After the 2014 Burning Man event, turnkey (a.k.a. “plug and play”, a.k.a. concierge) camping in Black Rock City rightfully became a hot-button issue in our community. We share the concerns...

I'll believe it when I see it.
There is a ton of under-the-radar commerce and PnP dealings.
I'll be curious to visit some of the common offenders next year. I expect yurts and RVs, per usual.

Re: Where is the PNP Thread?
Misfit, Thanks for pointing that out. You're right. I was momentarily swooning with deja vu. They are not all losers and I shouldn't lump them all together. Let me revise my post.
Don't waste your precious playa time on negative endeavors. Instead of seeking out P&P camps enjoy the positive camps. Marvel at the art, buildings and effort that thousands of people have put into this event. Eat, drink, dance and laugh. Or not. It's your vacation.
There. Now I'm 'pc'.

Bring a notebook (and a timepiece) with you on your playa travels. Note "I visited XYZ camp, address, and participated in this interaction". Then send that after the event to the feedback email at the org. Applies to all placed camps.

Re: Where is the PNP Thread?
I'm giving this a nudge over to Politics & Philosophy, since that's a better fit for this type of discussion.
Edited to add:
Here's a link to a post on the blog on the subject (others have posted it, but it's worth re-posting).
If you see an ad or listing for what appears to be a turnkey camp, please do not post ads/links/locations here. Even if your intention is to express shock or outrage, we really don't want to give these guys any more attention or traffic to their pages, ads, or locations. The best thing to do is to forward the link to that ad or posting to [email protected] - the placers not only help the placed camps get to their locations, but they also help keep an eye out for renegade land-grabbers, turnkey camps, and other sneaky jerks.
