If you lived every day like you were at Burning Man
If I lived every day like I was at burning man…
I wouldn’t long for my play when I was at work.
I’d get my work done, I’d make it fun. Beer in hand or friends around, I would create.
Then, when the work was done, I would relax, then play.
I’d take care of myself.
I’d drink LOTS of water.
I’d stop to take in everything interesting I saw, chat to the topless girls, dance on the stage, and frolic as much as possible.
I’d bike a lot, or move my body. I’d rely on simple modes of transportation.
I wouldn’t overthink things. I’d act, in the moment; on whatever I felt I desired or needed to do.
I’d LET GO.
I’d care less about what I looked like to others and care more about expressing my true self.
I’d wear EXACTLY what I wanted to wear that day, whether it was a lion costume or a ten-piece suit.
I would say YES more to life, but I would know when it was important to say no.
I would respect the limitations of my body and mind and make sure I got the self-care I needed, so that I could enjoy life again tomorrow.
I’d speak my truth.
I’d do all the fun things.
If I lived every day as if I was at Burning Man, I wouldn’t HAVE to go to Burning Man. It would not be a need for my soul, but rather, a want. Burning Man wouldn’t be the highlight of my year, it would just be part of a colorful, wonderful year where I lived with abandon. It would be another year where I learned more about myself, and more about balancing my masculine and feminine energies. I wouldn’t think of work as a life draining thing, or more or less important than play, or tie my work to my ego. I’d simply (metaphorically) nail my rebar into the ground and go dance.
If I lived every day as if I was at Burning Man, this year I would balance work and play in a way where they almost became one.
What would you do, if you lived every day as if you were on the Playa?
Or are you already doing that?

Burning Man is an all-out effort, it's hard. If I lived everyday like BM, I'd probably be dead by now. Your idea sounds great in theory and I get what you are saying, but don't let the love and magic fool you... It takes extreme effort and resources to make that "magic" happen.
Sooner or later, it will get real strange...

If you lived like that, you'd certainly not be able to afford to go to Burning Man!

You don't need Burning Man for nearly all of those self-improvement things. All the event does is provide Dumbo that not-really-magic feather that makes him think he can fly.

I think it's possible, it's just a matter of shifting your pespective on work, which is what I was getting at is important to me.Captain Goddammit wrote:If you lived like that, you'd certainly not be able to afford to go to Burning Man!
I agree. Exactly my intention behind the post, I just said it less directly.BBadger wrote:You don't need Burning Man for nearly all of those self-improvement things. All the event does is provide Dumbo that not-really-magic feather that makes him think he can fly.

Re: If you lived every day like you were at Burning Man
I've always tried to have a job I kinda' like as opposed to slaving away at something I hate.
Those are good ideals if you keep them in moderation. In the default world, I don't want to give my hard-earned stuff away or wear ridiculous costumes.
Burning Man is just a big expensive party for people who can afford it.
It's also famously been called just a camping trip in the desert.
It's become a profitable business for the founders. And good on them for that. For the rest of us, it's a vacation destination and/or hobby.
And it's fun! But you gotta pay to play, so having an enjoyable default world life is good but make sure you keep enough focus on makinna' da monney!

If I lived every day like I was at Burning Man I'd would have died at least a decade ago.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. And as the Captain said, it's EXPENSIVE!Jackass wrote:Burning Man is an all-out effort, it's hard. No kidding. A pound of bacon and at least one bottle of champagne consumed in mimosa form every morning? I'd totally be dead within a month, if I could last that long.

I actually tend to feel healthier after burning man. Minus the dust in my lungs, and all the beer drinking and bad food.
My day job is sitting in front of a computer so it's nice to go out there and do something physical like building a camp and walking/riding everywhere.

Re: If you lived every day like you were at Burning Man
I try and live the attitude every day. Being open to adventure, saying yes to things that scare me, being generous in my thoughts and actions, being kind and helpful, generosity, what can I give instead of take.
I think, no I know, I will live longer.
