Core Value: Bacon
Just what ARE Burning Man's Core Values?
In my first ever post on Eplaya, I started a thread questioning the selling of Ola Loa drinks at Center Camp last year. It's not a complaint - those drinks helped me and enhanced my experience. I'm still looking for where to buy them here in Austin.
And the sale of this commercial product is (as others have stated) a violation of Burning Man's Decommodification Principle. If there's a different way to view it, please let me know.
So if Burning Man's core values are based upon its own 10 Principles, then I would conclude that those values have, along the line somewhere - become well diminished.
As FDR once stated, "Rules are not necessarily sacred, principles are."
If you put privileges above principles - you will soon lose both.

LOL about Rule #2! Thanks for finding that on the internet. I'm so glad to see Ola Loa has so many flavors!
The only problem is that I couldn't find the flavor they were selling at Center Camp. I saved one of the boxes as a souvenir. Here it is:

Do you know if Whole Foods carries this?

Hey! I'm a girl, too!
You could always google the company directly and ask if it's actually a special flavor, or one of the regular flavors renamed and repackaged for the burn.

Since this thread has veered away from core values to reasons for going, as a Burn Virgin, the main appeal of Burning Man to me is the PLAYFULNESS. A human car wash! A Horny camp! Lantern lighters at dusk! People free to run around and be naked--or painted blue--if they want to! Cars that look like dragons or houses! And that was LAST year, who knows what will be next?
Adults are too stuffy. At almost 50, I'm still wondering when I'll be one. Not next summer! :D

Semantics
To define Burning Man is akin to defining yourself.
If you can answer the question, 'who am I', then you have found yourself.
Why do you need BM for that?
BM has no core values.
Values are defined by the very nature of your words instilled upon a belief structure of bias and relief from societal infomercials.
If you learn to value yourself on the playa, then you have found the core values you seek.
They are YOUR values, not anyone else's.
Therefore, BM has no core value system.
Evaluate that!

Ok, maybe I AM a little stuffy about spelling but really - are you supposed to rub this stuff on yourself instead of drinking it? Look closely at the package.marybeth wrote:LOL about Rule #2! Thanks for finding that on the internet. I'm so glad to see Ola Loa has so many flavors!

I'm impressed you're conscious!
If you can't buy it in austin....
They do mail order.
If you email me (not pm, please), I'll send you a link.
I haven't tried the topical yet though.
I was impressed with how easily the stuff dissolves.
I tried a variety of their stuff.
Some mixes never dissolve.
That's such a great image. It reminds me of Burning Man each time I drink it. It's amazing how Ola Loa was able to capture the essence of the festival in an easy to digest energizing drink. Totally awesome!
BTW: The Burning Man variety is now available at Whole Foods (at least where I'm at - Chicago). I bought probably more than I'll need, but will share my left-overs at this year's burn. Ola Loa is the bomb.
