Why don't you tell us how you want the event? Which year of burningman should be repeated over and over in history. Every few years the event is drastically different than it was just a few years before. There are lots of smaller events put on by people who like slightly different atmospheres, maybe that's more for you.

How does that effect the event? Are more people going to show up and you only want the people who were there before you came to come back?

Huh. I bought a tent off the shelf in K-Mart and it worked fine (although I did replace the proto-stakes which came with the tent with foot long ones.) The only problem I had was when it unzipped itself during the biggest dust-storm, while I was away. Then again, I might not have fully zipped it shut when I left, which could have let it flap enough in the winds. (Actually, now that I think about it, there was one other problem I had with it-- getting the darn thing packed back into its carry bag at the end of the trip! It still isn't fully packed back into its bag, dag nab it!

well, count yourselves lucky! to buy/sell anything advertised with the term 'burningman' opens you up to liability and the general wrath of the LLC.

i wouldn't even SAY i bought a tent from K-mart that worked fine at burningman... i'd lay off the whole burningman subject when discussing any product or service that happened at, or may in any way be related to the event... if i were you.

as in, i wouldn't say it now - as i've realized the consequences. i've spent years building up my ebay account, and because i wrote 'burningman' in my ad description my account was suspended and i spent about 50 hours (maybe more) in emails and calls to ebay pleading to reactivate my account. i was treated as a guilty person who tried to sneak one past the censors in violation of the all important guidlines... and they hoped i learned my lesson and that burningman wouldn't take me to court (they were kind in their sympathy).

FINE, whatever - it's the internet. i can roll with such... um, suchness.

i'm just saying, the LLC pulls out its law-gun so fast so often that, well... live by the law, die by the law.

so when DPW in whatever form goes to protest - that's true power because the people not the LLC have the power. look at the effects already of only these 3 protestors - be VERY afraid when the number gets to 30. BRC citizens are a very powerful group of geeks and squeaks. we are professionals in government and anti-government; we're lawyers (among other professions) and we have a shit-load of money to spend of causes dear to our hearts. and we will fuck shit up if shit gets too lame...

so fine - sell your official calendars and your key chains - but if you take it too far, the people are going to kick your ass very hard, BORG. maybe to the point of ending the event as we know it.

so is burningman a real movement - or is it a corporate thing or what?

Well, the zipper was still fine-- it just managed to unzip itself while I was away. That was the only time it opened itself up, so I am counting it as a shortcoming on my part-- I should have made certain I got the tent shut all the way.

The stakes which came with the tent-- they were of the maybe 3" long variety! I have as yet to find soil they would work in! The purchasing of the foot long stakes was one of the best purchases I made for the trip.
