* doesn't actively practice censorship of criticism
* critical tits is discrete, sexy and doesn't mow over your personal experience
* temperate weather
* paris hilton camps at the du Cap, not in an impossible to reach RV
* class is determined by your skill in obtaining a priority badge, not your skill in sucking off a member of the LLC
* a real beach, not a playa
* when you order a double you get a quadruple
* better fireworks at the end of the festival
* people are mostly friendly, and speak a funny language
* more subjects to talk about with strangers than 'where are you from?'
* no DPW parade
* mini bar & room service
* celebrates entertainment and doesn't pretend that everyone should be a participant
* has a long celebrated history
* rituals are known bores, and are discouraged
* is a creative industry that doesn't pretend to be a movement
* cannot be described as a cult; you are free to skip a year without being ostracized as a malcontent
* all of your friends don't attend, so you can get distance from it in the off-season
* no spiritual nazis - nothing is sacred
No comparison at all. Can’t compare them.
Liberty, freedom is the right in burning man whereas it isn’t the case with Cannes film.
No issues with strangers. Everyone enjoys the festival .
No red carpets.
Don’t need to watch others. Just celebrate your thoughts.
No criticism. No expects. No photographs.

Not to mention Michael Jackson sing-alongs, zombie-prowls, beauty contests, more pirates, scavenger hunts...But mainly, "entertainment" mimicked middle-class diversions, which included roller disco, dances, bars, miniature golf, parades...
Gotta say that cartoon SLAMMED it.
They should make a movie about the last Burningman whenever that ends up happening. I'd call it The Termination: the Rise of Mediocrity.

Thanks for asking that interesting question, which of course is not as interesting as the answer.ygmir wrote:Is Douche a French word?...............Captain Goddammit wrote:Such a troll... no one likes a troll. Any douchebag can be a troll... as you've illustrated.buttnugget wrote:* fewer americans
"Douche" means "shower" in French, therefore the answer is "no".

burning man, the middle age crisis.
this year, the man needs to cut some ties, gain his freedom and a Hot New Trophy Wife, and lease a New Convertible.
and possibly a little grecian formula around the temple, so he can "stay in the game"
Hey, it's all about Rich White Guys, ain't it?
now go get me a motherfucking Latte.

The very poor have a difficult time going to the playa (or anywhere else). The very rich (with a few exceptions) don't bother. So what's wrong with having an event that is composed of, and reflects, about 80% of the economic distribution?But mainly, "entertainment" mimicked middle-class diversions, which included roller disco, dances, bars, miniature golf, parades...
It's fun to mock the middle class, of course. The subtext is that if you are middle class (i.e. you have a job and need to keep it) you are a loser. In that case I'm a loser, too. Now please go and sneer at someone else, in the vain hope that it will make you happier (it won't).
I just kinda sighed at the cartoon. It seems to me to reflect the cartoonist more than the event. It's critical about stuff that is already all over the media, but misses entirely those features that draw me back year after year. Maybe once the event is not cool we can get back to enjoying ourselves without the media gawkers.
