the sfba is one of the coolest places to live in the world. my life changed so completely when i moved back here, that the perosn typing this only partially resembles the person who stepped off the plane in jan 2000. i could go on and on but this song by semisonic sez it best...

driven through the canyons i was dazzled by the mountains and we
didn't go very far.
close enough to heaven if you can climb up a mansion you too
can swing like a star
i tried to get inside, i bought a ticket with my pride and i was gone
right out of my head
went out for a drive to go across the great divide
and i ended up at home instead

california - i thought i should see
now i'm back home
12 little pieces of me

i was just a passenger, a rider on the tremors that were shaking all our beds at night
a visitor, a stranger thought i might pass for a regular if i just
stayed out of the lights
i tore my heart out from my chest, mixed it up in my mind with the best
precious pieces of my soul
chose the one i loved the most, drove them all down to the coast
and threw em in a big black hole

california - i thought i should see
now i'm back home
12 little pieces of me

california i dreamed i would find
some kinda sorta pick me up
i've got 12 little pieces of my mind

anything or anyone worthy of praise will be lambasted out of sheer jealousy. i should know.

So, uh, is it not a pre-req of frat-boyhood to be a student? The last thing I want there is more college age boys.
Your question seems to imply that some unacceptable threshold of students are fratboys. That would be a narrow understanding, at best. Also, dismissing the whole of the proposition on the quite possibly mistaken idea that there'd be more fratboys is akin to tossing the baby with the bathwater.

Not that I have any emotional investment either way. As I say, 2k3 was my last year.

sorry Tom, I forgot to put the 'funny ha-ha' disclaimer and emoticon after that post.

They are also a subset of Burners, and a subset of humankind. Even if they are not the kind you like. :)

hey, i enjoy sweeping generalizations just as much as the rest of you do, but it's worth noting that not all fraternities are created equal. i'd say, like, maybe 85 % of igs was fraternity boys.

the distinction is that they all went to mit and are tepsters.

hail krotus!

blessed be.

Same in return. I'm awaiting the solstice like some await Christmas; I'm going to treat myself to a nice Pinot Noir and a quiet burn. 'Til then, no drinking.

it goes round and round

in the end, despite yahoo problems, they will probably keep the doors as open as they are.

Why? so that burners can grab as much of the playa as they can manage.

because a day---an hour-- on the playa is better than nothing

Because when people come home, the door should be open

The most fun thing to say during my greeter shift was

"Where have you been Young [lady/man]? We've been waiting up for you! See? We left the lights on!"

It always resulted in a huge grin.

My favorite thing working the gate was to write messages to the greeters in the dust on the windows. Things like "Greeters blow goats" and some such.

I agree that the gates should be closed to only pre-sale tickets after Thursday. It keeps the day-trippers and soul-sucking weekenders from Reno down to a minimum.

Just think how many yahoos that would dissuade from coming. Imagine the beautiful monday/tuesday/wednesday vibe continuing all week and through the weekend. Imagine no one coming just for a two day rave?

What's stopping it from happening, other than that ugly old money thing?

Has BMorg ever released any official thoughts on closing the gates early?
